RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear All
Perhaps it is time to call a truce. My Wife is half English half American, can you imagine what it is like in our house. I can't help but not to know about the war of independence etc. My Father in-law has told me about these events on many occasions. He even gave me a Beer tankard with 1776 on it. My Father in-law lives in Florida we have come over from England and visited him on a couple of occasions. I would like to visit California but after this thread I think I might be lynched if I set foot in the place. We British don't agree on everything I personally think Tony Blair is a very good Prime Minister. Harry C loathes him. I think our respective Countries are so intertwined by History that is why we are quite ready to squabble with one another. I can say this to you the British people remember the sacrifices your young men made for us in Europe over sixty years ago now. The County of Norfolk where I live is full of memorials to American Airmen who fell during World War two. Some thing that started as a bit of a wind up as gotten a bit out of hand. So hopefully we can call a truce, you might not believe this four F15's have just flown over my house. The only thing that ruffled my feathers was when some one called me mcwarbirds. This implied I am Scottish in fact I'm English. Oh hell I have just upset all the Scots now.:D Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
How scale is the Eurosport, I know it is marketed as 'sport scale' but would it be possible to model an accurate scale Typhoon or is it way off? My first ever paint job etc was on my previously all red EuroSport as I converted it into a semi-scale Eurofighter..... Rgds, Mark |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Thank You Mark,
I wasn't sure if it was because I haven't been able to find a photo of a full scale with the dorsal air brake. I can only see the drouge chute being used, even the Typhoon at Waddington didn't use an airbrake. Well said Phil, My Brother lives in Breckenridge, Colorado so I 'enjoy' these types of 'discussion/argument' all the time with him and his American wife. I guess I know which chains to pull and which buttons to press! - I don't mean any of the stuff I say, it is just for effect! Bigbubba |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear BIGBUBBA
Would you be interested in attending our Battle of Britain event at RAF Coltishall on Sunday the 4th of September we can also get passes for Saturday the 3rd also. This will be our last Battle of Britain with thr RAF still presnt. The Jaguars are due to leave april of next year and the base will finally close December 2006. Coltishall is the only operational Battle of Britain fighter station left sadly for not much longer. Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
ORIGINAL: nmacwarbirds Paul Gray brought his Grumania Eurofighter to Coltishall a few weeks ago it is powered by a wren 44. Pretty sure it's 54![X(] isn't it? I was suprised, as the model doesn't seem all that big! I too thought it had a 44. |

RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear Dave
When Paul came to Colt it was definately a 44 John Wright was also there with the Hawk this also had a 44 in it. I can't remember the chaps name who flew it. Both flew extremely well. Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Phil
Those four F15's were just doing a recce. pass. The next time you upset our stateside friends they will be coming back to visit you loaded for bear.:D John |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear John
The F15's are out of Lakenheath, four of them are partisipating in the Lowestoft airshow. I think they go out over the North sea and dogfight with Dutch F16's. There were 4 of them over Norwich on monday line abreast. They some times conduct an ILS approach into Colt, the flight path is just by the side of my house. Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
ORIGINAL: HarryC ORIGINAL: Doug Cronkhite Lightning vs the F-15.. What numbers can it outperform the Eagle? H " and of course we were financially crippled by WW2 for a long time after so the cash for investing in development was very tight." Now THAT part is true. Ya THINK it might have had something to do with things? Don't beleive everything you read on the internet. Just because someone knows some of the names and places and SOUNDS like they know what they are talking about does not mean they actually do. At any rate, the EE Lightning is a cool aircraft, but any comparison to an F-15 Eagle is a bit of a joke. The Eagle will even out-do the Lightning in the interceptor role, the only one the Lightning can perform. And outlast it, too. The Lightnings were all worn out after only 20 years? We have plenty of eagles older than that, still going strong... The Typhoon(that's a French and German made aircraft, right?) seems like a pretty awesome performer, but man, it's coyote ugly. I have to say, though, it's still MUCH better looking than either the F-22 or F-35. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear Easytiger
The Eurofighter is a collaberation between Germany Italy Spain and the UK. The French pulled out and made their own aircraft the RAfale. Eastiger I did try to call a truce on the LIghtning v F15 debate. I like them both. If you don't stop we will send George Galloway over and he won't answer any of your questions. And please can you keep him.:D Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Let me guess...the UK part of the Typhoon was the burled walnut interior trim? And the Lucas electrical system?
Trade you George Galloway for George Bush II? Deal? |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
:D........... UK part was engines wasn't it? I haven't watched a 'Wings' program about the Eurofighter for....oooo....at least a week :D
|
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Oh, no, the ENGINES?
In that case, you had better put some cardboard under the Eurofighter when you park it...as an owner of several pieces of "fine british machinery", trust me, it's going to leak oil all over the hangar floor... |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Dear Easy
George W has just arrived in Scotland for the G8 summit. So the plane is in the right place. Our car industry is in tatters MG/Rover have just recently gone bust Lotus is owned by a Malaysian company Rolls Royce is owned by the Germans. So there is no chance of a nice decorative finish in the Eurofighter. We are happy to see it fly it has been a long time coming. Regards Phil G. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
They are at Gleneagles. Nice place!
I own an MG, amongst other british cars(I do my share of pushing and cursing of english machinery), so it really saddened me to see MG go down yet again. But they really did not have a chance. Right from the start, they blew it, with chintzy badge engineering, not hitting the US market, all these incredible blunders. They should look straight at Mini(BMW) and see how THEY did it. Drove my buddy's Lotus Esprit yesterday, cool, cool car. Underneath, it's not that special, non-turbocharged, but in James Bond white, it's still a cool car. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
My bro's limited ed MG TF has sensed the collapse of Rover/MG and has suddenly started to fall apart in places! nightmare! - cracking roadster/coupé though:D

Ya simply can't compare Rolls Royce aircraft engines to the junk that eminated from places like BLMC. If RR made engines like BLMC did, then we'd still be in the dark ages. Fortunately that didn't happen, so the Americans were able to learn from the Brits how to make decent engines. (Not that they always learned properly - the Packard built Merlins are still less desirable than the true RR ones, due to poorer quality.) :) Gordon P.S., FWIW: LOL, ROTFL, DTPYO ? ;) |

Great car. We have had a 52TD in the family since new, never been restored, and still going strong(well...40hp strong) with no restoration. Wooden frame and all. Fold the windshield down and 40mph feels like you are really moving! It's when it stops dripping oil that you start to worry... |

Say, a Chevy Vega versus a rubber bumper MGB. Do a quarter mile drag race, see who finishes(if any) and see who sheds the most parts along the way... |

DTPYO? Where's my Geek Dictionary?

RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Looks decent, but obviously doomed.
They missed the whole styling thing. Look at the New Beetle and the Mini Cooper. Cars that stand out. It's VITAL. Otherwise, who are you? Just another car. It's amazing that they can make mediocre vehicles like the Scion and PT Cruiser sell, but when it comes to niche cars, they have to be distinctive. And "Sunstorm"? Did they buy that name off of Geo? Or Hyundai? Yech. |
RE: The shackles finally come off Typhoon.
Uhm Phil, don't forget about FORD owning Jaguar :D

It really is a shame that we have lost MG / Rover. My ZTT station wagon is a fine car with a 2litre BMW turbo diesel engine that will do 47mpg and 120mph. I have covered over 70,000 miles in two of these without any problems. It makes a great carrier for jet models. |
