Yes... it is... the builder is around here somewhere..

Eddie,

Is that a turbine balancer I see in your first picture?

I'll have to tell Chuck. He has the electronics for that kit but has not constructed the balancer. I believe the kit was from a guy in England. Nice job by the way.

I just learned a better way to make that part or parts...

I glue two plates of aluminum together. Cut out all the parts. Then heat the base plate and
knock of the good parts one at a time.. I found finishing resin sticks like crazy to aluminum..
I am sure lots of other glues do also but West epoxy did not stick at well.

It seems to work fine as long as you use small tools with light cuts.. But with the CNC
you can its no problem.

Eddie.

The Balancer works great! Thanks for making the Aluminum hardware for me.

geneh - interested in what electronics you used and your experience with the balancer. I got the John Wells kit and finished the assembly, but need to finish the hardware portion. What you've got looks pretty much exactly like what I need to do.

Eddie - sent you a PM.

JR - thanks for the heads up; this might get me off my a** on this project and get it done, Lord knows I need to...

Chuck,

Yeah you need to. We can grab a few beers and call Eddie over the phone and he can update us on the CNC progress. Then I'm sure it will take a few more beers to finalize the assembly once it arrives.

If I make both your plates at once the price is $80 each... plus shipping...

How much are all the electronics... ? and where do you get them..?

I think I paid 200 pounds or something like that. Got it from John Wells in England as a kit via the GTBA. Can't find his info. right now and I'm not sure he's supplying kits anymore, but he is doing schematics, etc. I beleive. I'll look tonight. It's the stroboscopic balancer, so you don't need an oscilliscope.

I'll get you details and finalize something on the balancer.

Chuck.

I am using the same electronics that you have. I have also made a set for me (PC boards and all) but they are not done yet. I am having a hard time finding the transformer that was used.

ChuckC 12-13-2005 09:42 PM

RE: Custom Milling

The transformer? It's been a while since I pulled out my components, but you're not talking about the power supply, but one of the internals, right? There's a ton of electronic shops around Houston close by and you've got to be able to get it on-line, I'd think. Do you remember the specs?

The piezo pick-up - did you use what came with it and cut it to size? The set-up that Eddie posted doesn't look like the same that I have - is that the particular one you are referring to?

Huh - another reason to dig it out of it's protective hibernation.

Here is what i did lately. I finaly found 7075-T6 aluminium to make my trunions ( i had very hard time to find some).

Now my retracts are almost done. I working on the cylinder by now and it should be ready in a week or two.

On the pics you see the final unit with a robart cylinder and pics of the Trunion.

Like i said they will be as strong as the Robart 635 (EuroSport type) but with the 630 size. They will accept 1/2 strut.

I did a custum aluminium steering arm today but i forgot it at work, i will post pic tomorrow.
