Dont Trust Paypal !!!!!!!

I've gotten alot of good info from this forum & feel the need to share this with you all. PAYPAL is great to seal a deal WITH YOUR CREDITCARD but for
ALL SELLERS: DO NOT SHIP ANYTHING UNTIL THE FUNDS REACH YOU PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT !!!! (NOT YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT) !!!!!!

THIS EMAIL WAS RECEIVED 5 FULL BUSINESS DAYS AFTER PAYPAL SHOWED ME AS HAVING $1500 IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT.
GOOD THING I WOULDNT SHIP UNTIL IT REACHED MY BANK.

I had a similar incident happen. I sold a Nikon Slide scanner to a guy for 1100, and paypal deemed this an out of the ordinary transaction vs. my past history. I sent the package as soon as the funds showed in my Paypal account. Well I got a call at 8 in the morning from a lady claiming to be from paypal and saying that she wanted a tracking number or she was going to freeze my account. She was quite rude and offensive. I wasnt about to give up information from someone who called me so I asked if I could call back. She informed me that she would be freezing my account and thats where the phone call ended. I promptly looked up the phone number from the Paypal site and called them. I was informed that my account had been frozen and that nothing could go in or out until I faxed them "required documents to ensure my security" after going back and forth with them (I think some things are privileged). I finally gave in and faxed them my documents, only to get an e-mail from them saying that they required more documents than was initially stated. What a load of horse poopy! Any who two weeks later my account got unfrozen and I again had access to my funds. This royally pissed me off, as I don't have an extra 1100 to float around as need be. If they weren't so damn convenient I would stop using them

I have to admit, I have only had sucess with paypal but my bank account that they have access to never has any money in it and the total between the account and paypal is seldom over $500. I guess I look at it as a deductable!

So wait a minute, are you guys saying that they can withdraw funds from your bank account with no further permission? As in if you sell something, you wait till the funds are transferred into your bank account - NOT the PayPal account - THEN they can go back to your bank account and get it back WITHOUT your permission? Is this possible? Thanks.

i would be guessing but it sounds like the paypal account is set up (depending on ) to take funds and also to put funds? This is my plane kick around money so my sales are finished by the money in paypal, if i remember correctly my account is setup to take funds out of my bank account if i don't have enough in paypal to cover the transcation, i suppose you could do the same with a credit card off paypal!

Topgun2mo 11-19-2002 12:52 PM

Basic Paypal

Well then I think it is an advantage to only have a basic account that doesn't accept credit card payments. It makes the other guy get the cash first and then make a cash transfer with paypal. That is much safer for the seller....but not for the buyer.

Contacting Paypal

I tried to contact Pay-Pal through their website, to resolve a small issue. It takes a while to get to the page that allows you to write them a message. I finally found it.

They promise a prompt reply.

That was a week ago. So far Nada, Nilch.

I'm dissapointed.

I try paypal myself.
My personal experience. Don't like it.
They charge me more than my credit card machine.
I only allow to draw $500 a month when set up the account.
In order for me to get more fund. I have to fill out the banking account, credit card account. When I have difficulty experience.
They request me to send them a fax about my account statement for them approve. It been three weeks. I have no reply from them yet. They still got my money in their bank.
Too much trouble for business. Specialy don't have time to deal with it.
It might be good for personal use.
My credit card service only take 2 working days to put the money to my account. If any problem with transaction. They call me in 24 hrs to take care of it.

Tam

Heliboy7,

Have you contacted the buyer to try to determine what has happened? Did he tell you he was having second thoughts, buyers remorse, etc.? Please tell me you heeded our advice and didn't ship the model until the funds hit your Bank account....

Yes, I stuck to the golden rule "nothing ships until cash is in hand"
I must admit I am not quite done with PayPal because it allows me to take credit card payments on large money Items. I will just transfer funds immediately to my bank & then immediately empty that account. Although I am out of the crate money & will never build a crate again until I receive the funds.
The purchaser in this incident had a story that I think is true, but in reality you never really know. I backed out of the deal even though he offered to overnight a M.O.
I took it as a sighn to keep my starfire I worked so hard on.
I will also say to be weary of advise you get from this forum, Although most is very good if you read the other post 1st page you will see incorrect info given as if it was fact. "send as soon as you receive funds in your paypal account not your bank account" I believe is an exact quote.
Probably written by the potential buyer!!

it sounds as if you would not be out of any money for the crate and the bird would have been sold it the buyer was still trying to work with you on this deal. its sounds like you did not have the warm and fuzzy even when the deal started hum......

Is there any way that PayPal can withdraw funds from your bank account AFTER those funds have been tranferred to your account from PayPal? In other words, if a guy pays for an auction using his credit card and PayPal, you get the $$$ in your PayPal account, transfer it to your bank and wait three days or whatever and then confirm that the cash is indeed in YOUR bank and then the dude *****es to Visa, is there any way that PayPal can go back into your account and get it with out asking your permission? Thanks.

I'm not sure of the answer, but Paypal can most certainly freeze or remove any other money you have in your Paypal account...so the next time somebody Paypals you money, it's gone right away.

Heliboy, you are totally right...there is some really bogus info given out on the net. Just use that common sense on that stuff, too!

I don't know about that. I think that there is a point where you just have a bad feeling about a deal, and you ought to run with that. In my experience, if there is something "off" about the guy, it's probably going to get worse, not better. So why take the chance, when chances are you can just sell it to somebody else who will not make you worry?

Paypal service is really bad.
7 weeks ago I send the request fax documents.
Their just review my fax contact me yesterday. Now there want me to fax another letter from my bank stating that I'm the signer of my bank account.
This is getting too much trouble and inconvience.
I can't even close my account to get my fund untill I fax them this letter.
This my first time using Paypal and go to be my last time too.
These peoples offer terrible service and waste my time.

I have always just deal COD on internet trades. Some people dont like it but it seems to me that the only way you can get hosed is if someone sends you a box of rocks." they could still do this on paypal" At least with cod you can request a cashiers check or moneyorder to UPS and you are Guaranteed your money if you are the seller. russ

I'm also having a hard time CLOSING my paypal account. I don't use it, but every once in a while somebody will paypal me ANYWAY, and I need to refund their money. But paypal won't close the account. Customer service stinks.

PayPal is awesome!!!!

Never had a problem with using PayPal and I'll continue using it. A do admit that I do feel better when I deal with a VERIFIED PayPal user.

From what I've gleened reading this thread is that PayPal is not the problem (unless you want to close your account), It is that a crook can figure out how steal from a person using any payment method. That's the type of person they are.

Bart

Here is what I have setup to help prevent the type of issue that was brought up.

I have a pay pal account. It is setup to deposit money into a personal account (lets call it my bank-paypal account) at my bank. This account is only used for PayPal, BillPoint, etc. It is seperate from my own personal account, and the joint household account.

When I get a paypal payment, and its posted into my paypal account. I immediately have it transfered from paypal into the bank-paypal account unless it will be used immediately to pay for something through paypal. Once there, its automatically by the bank into my separate personal or joint account that paypal has no access to. This usually leaves around $50 in the bank-paypal account, and almost nothing in the actual paypal account. They would violate several federal laws if they even tried to get the money back, and my bank can not release it them either.

Every transaction requires an additional transfer to keep the money safe, but its ironclad as far as paypal not having any access to that money.

I use Paypal to get instant payments for the goods I sell on Ebay. I have been lucky in that I have always gotten my money.

I thought that the withdarwal of funds from Paypal was only allowed by "verified" accounts?

sfaust, I agree with you when i'm the seller. & ofcoarse dont ship anything until the funds reach that final account. Now as the buyer I will use my creditcard through paypal & hopefully have adequate protection through my card.
Jermaine
