Hi Guys

I just received the Skymaster MB-339 kit from MN Models, here in South Africa and I`m looking forward to putting this model together. I purchased the speedbrake kit and cockpit kit as well. The retracts are really very well engineered and they do not have a spring in the oleo legs. They use oil and compressed air,to work as a dampening method. Part of the retract kit,was also the gear door cylinders etc.

There is no instruction manual with the kit,but there is one available on Skymaster`s site. They also give two videos,on how to fill the oleo legs with oil. Morne from MN Models,is a great guy,to do business with and his service is excellent. I will post more photos,as I progress with the asembling of this model.

Regards
Craig

Hi Guys

My pilot has been hanging around for a long time and now I have got a place for it. The cockpit detail is very good.

Craig,

Wow! Can't wait to see that one together.

Eurokit came out with oil dampened Oleos. I wonder if they are making them for Skymaster.

Hi Guys

I just assembled the model,to see if everything fits and I must admit that everything was a tight fit. As you can see, this model is huge and I can`t wait to finish it.

I have a P-160 in mine and it is about perfect. i use full throttle at take off and it is shorter than scale and then 1/2 to 3/4 for scale aerobatics and sometimes full throttle in vertical.
A P-120 would give perfect scale type performance.

Thanks Al for your answer.

I have GRASS field, and I like PERFECT model, so the weight give up... [X(][X(]
Do you think that a P160 is quite sufficient ?? [sm=confused.gif]

If you fly from grass then 160 is perfect. Just remeber to reduce throttle in the air [;) The Skymaster 339 U/C is so strong it will work well on grass.

Hi Morne

I`ve got such a lot of work on my hands and havn`t even done any more work on the MB-339. Its must be frustrating for you guys, not seeing any progress on this model. I will get to it,as soon as my Airworld Raven, has allowed me some space on the building table. I`ve been working on the C of G and making brackets to mount the extra ballast onto the gearbox mounting.

I`m thinking of the blue, white, red and green colour scheme, just the same as the aerobatics team. If you are here on Sunday morning, then we can maiden my Turbo Raven.

Craig

Craig,
Would like to see and hear of your progress when you get building. I can't decide whether to go for this kit or a 1/4 scale Italian kit which is much more basic,

Hi Brian.

If you decide for the 1/4 scale, I have a new kit of [link=http://www.cuccoloaeromodelli.com/]CUCCOLO[/link] aeromodelli also in the box, that I like to sell.
If you are interested please contact me. I can sell it a 500 Euro.;)

Hi Gabrielle,
what is the problem with the Cuccolo kit apart from having to glass cloth and finish the wings, tail etc? From photos, the fuselage seems to be detailed and looks scale. Eurokit supply the retracts.
The Skymaster kit saves so much work. I am surprised that they don't do wingtip tanks as an option for those who want an MB339A or CD. I will let you know if I want the kit and would be delighted to exchange any information on the 339. You are obviously in a better position in Italy to obtain documentation. I would like to get plans showing flush rivet lines,
Best regards,
Brian

Hi Brian,
Skymaster are currently working on both tip, and under slung wing tanks. I am going to pop a guess here and ask you if you intend to build this model for scale jet master type competition?????
If so email me on [email protected] and we can discuss this further.
Regards Al

Hi Brian,
the 339' Cuccolo is not a 100 scale model, is a semi-sport model. So the fuselage have not the panel line or rivet and the wing are in balsa. The Eurokit retract is good.
Also in Italy in not simple to find a good documentation about the 339, but when you need I can Try.

The skymaster kit saves much work, but it cost 3 time !! :D:D Anyway, I like very much the Skymaster, so I can sell the Cuccolo and buy it !! :D:D[X(]

Hi Guys

I`ve managed to get going again on this model and have just completed the Rudder servo installation. There was one control arm, wgich was sort supplied in the kit,so I had to make one myself, using aircraft aluminium. It all worked out very well and now I can start on the Aeleron,Flaps and Elevator servo installations.

Hi Guys

Here is the powerplant, which I am going to install into the MB-339. Its the BMT KS120 and I can get 15 Kg. of thrust, without any difficulty. The engine has got the "kero-start" system as well and its starts very easily. The software is excellent and also allows you to charge the ECU battery and the receiver battery, via an external 12 Volt battery supply. This is very useful, when having a long days flying,at the field. No need to go home,to charge batteries, because the HDT has got an internal charger.

Hi Guys

I also just fitted the nose wheel steering servo,to the retract unit. In one of the pics, you will notice a small brass nipple, which is fitted to the whel rim. This is for inflating the nose wheel tyre. I will pump it up,when the model is completely finished, fuelled up and ready for take-off.

Hi Guys

I thought that the installation of the elevator servos, would be a piece of cake. Well,I was wrong, because one of the servo mounting blocks, which are inside the stab, was not in the same position,as what the other one was. The first one went quite quickly, but the second one,was another story. I had to grind quite a lot of the mounting away and also cut the aluminium brackets at an angle,to get the servo inside the allowed space. The problem was the location of the servo lead, which is attatched to the lower side of the servo casing. It was in the way of the plywood mounting. The other stab, did not have this problem and the lead cleared it. This is when I realised that the position of the mounts, were not exactly the same on both stabs.

Hi Guys

I have just completed the installation of the aeleron and flap servos, into the right hand side wing. The retract unit has also been installed. Now comes the installation of the gear doors and this is the part, which I hate. I will have to construct a small bracket,to support the door cylinder onto the underside of the wing sheeting. This will be the "pivot" area of the door cylinder. Its going to be a lot of work and I will keep you posted on the progress.

Regards
Craig
