Drag Chute
What is State of the Art regarding drag chute mechs in our models? I have made some initial sketches of system with two wires and one servo, but am interested in other ideas. My requirements: Use one channel or even better part of one channel on the radio, have a deploy switch, and a jettison function for after landing or to release it in the air in case of inadvertent deployment.

RE: Drag Chute
The system designed by Wolfgang Khlur for the Fibre classics Mig 29 works very well with one servo. Very simple, works very well. takes many words to explain, a sketch shows it easily. PM with an address and I'll send it to you. Do I sniff a Norwegian F16 for the next JWM ?

RE: Drag Chute
Per,
If you would rather not use a channel at all, you could use one of the new Autochute units. I'm finishing the Beta testing on the unit and should have it available next month. http://www.details4scale.com/auto_dr...ute_system.htm The unit uses 2 micro servos. one for the chute deployment and one for the release from the aircraft. The unit plugs into a "Y" on the brake and flap channels. A sensor mounts to any wheel to give the unit real time ground speed. I'll be uploading photos of the unit this weekend to the website. Dan |
RE: Drag Chute
You can have one channel (or even a channel expander on the retract/brake channel or something like that) that opens the chute.
You can have a seperate small servo tied to the flap channel. It is set up such that if the chute opens with the flaps up the chute flies right off the plane (in other words this small servo provides the chute mounting point). If the chute opens with the flaps down, the chute stays on until you retract the flaps on the ground and then the chute releases. |

We do a system like you say.
One serve release the chute and one servo is for safety. If the chute open in fly , we release. :D It' s working very good !! |
