David,

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Your installation looks great!

I finally got my replacement fuse, so I'll start back to work on it soon, can't wait to get it into the air. You are going to so love flying this plane!!! I'm playing with building an inlet/bypass system to install in this one. I'm using what was left of the first one as a practice piece. Keep the pictures and info coming.

David. your airplane looks stunning ,well done, great scheme and a nice job, I AM READY TO TEST FLY MY TUTOR THIS WEEKEND i haven't painted it yet but everything else is ready, what did you make the nose strakes with ? and what are you locking your front doors with ? also i had to put 4 lbs of lead in the nose right up in the wheel well to get the correct 210 mm balance point ....i have an AMT Netherlands Peggy in the back end and smoke system......weighed in at 42 lbs dry.....I found that the best way to balance such a large plane was to screw a large round hook into the keel through the bottom of the fuseon the CG and hang the beast from the garage ceiling then I could do the for and aft CG and the lateral balance,,,, it took 3 oz lead in the right wingtip to hang straight and level....best wishes \Malcolm

David Searles glad to hear you got your fuse, been trying to get intouch with Peter, to no avail, is there a secret method ? please let us know how your doing the inlets, i'm interested...... even half an inlet would improve things......malcolm

RE: CT-114 TUTOR ALMOST DONE!

Malcolm,

Peter's cell # is (+49) 0172-42 19 687. Germany is 8 hrs ahead of me here on the west coast so only 5 for you. Try him first thing in the morning when you get up, you should be able to reach him them.

I'll post pics of the inlet system later. I'm doing it in 3 sections for easier install. I've got the front section done and am working on the middle section, which will be the trickiest, now.

Hi Malcom!

I am back with a couple of pics. The strakes are amde of 1mm fiberglass-board. It is locked with two "latches" and glued with resin. The doors are locked with three short fiberglass-strips. You have to bend the door slightly, so that the glass-strips can slide in. The one in the middle has a flat screw glued to it. There is a matching hole in the fuselage, where the screw-head sits in. To open the door you press the screw-head with a screwdriver and open the door. The idea is from Martin Forster from switzerland.

Best regards,

david

Some more pics....

it's getting crowded inside the wings. 5 airlines per wing.... I use some plastic-cable-whatsies to hold the airlines in place. Took a short piece of silicon-tubing to protect the yellow airline at the end of the retract. There is a more or less sharp edge and it needs to be curvy. I have used the instant-air-connectors from dreamworks. They work perfect and I don't know why I didn't buy more of them. The airlines for the retracts ar rooted through small grommets (old servo-grommets) and connected with Festo QSM-3. The 3mm Festo-tubing is not the tightest fit on the black quick-disconnects from dmp, but they are good for more than 7bar! We will see how they work in summertime. The fuselage did look very bad during rigging. Now, most of the parts are installed, all airlines and fuel-tubings are rooted through the fuselage, air-bottles glued with hot-glue and it starts looking nice inside. We have measured the c/g yesterday. There is still the glass-work missing, no lighting-electronics and the batteries for the light and the turbine were missing. It needed 500g lead, so it might work out without any balance-weight. But the JetCat P-160 is lighter than the Peggy.

Almost forgot to mention: I have cut a couple of vent-holes and added cardboard-tubes to get a nice look. The one on the bottom is for my vent-lines. I am using a 6mm Festo-fitting for kero. I still need to add a 4mm brass-tube for the smoke-fluid. I love these small details.....

david

G'day!

We had the first roll-out yesterday. No time to fit the glass yet, but everything else is ready. Made the first engine-run and range-test. That was a bit frustrating, as I had failsafe after 120m, whereas I usually have more than 150m.... Well, we will sort it out. I will change the rx and try one of the old and proofed ones. I hope you like it.

Well guys we got the tutor airborne today and it really is a beautiful flyer, smooth and precise and easy to fly , the landings were great just seemed like a full size airplane on approach and then just kissing the tarmac in a slow glide.... the pegasus HP performed perfectly and had bags of thrust for such a big plane ... the airframe was straight and true and needed only a couple of clicks of down to fly straight and level, my buddy robbie was on the sticks and he loved flying the bird , we need another four or five flights on her before lake wales next week , but then she should be ready for public viewing ,.... here are a couple of bad shots, little camera, fast moving object at close range........not a good combination,,,,malcolm

Hi Dave!

Sorry for the late reply. I finally maidend the Tutor. It is a lovely airplane. Still have to do some mods, like moving the CG back and change from NiCads to Lipos. But I've got a couple of pics for you. I like the pics with my dad, cause they show the size of the aircraft.

Hi again!

Here are the pictures from the maiden. Took-off in about 80m from a grass-strip. Plenty of power with the JetCat P-160. IIf you fly from a concret-strip a 120 is more than enough, but we fly alot from short grass-strips on jet-meets in europe and the extra power is very helpful on hot days.

Malcolm,
Is there a US distributor for this kit? I can't seem to find a link where you and David bought your plane and accessories. Love to know the pricing and delivery.

I ordered mine directly from the mfg & imported it myself. www.roedelmodell.com/html/tutor.html I believe Malcolm later became an agent for them but don't know if he still is. Ordering directly from the mfg in Germany is a lot easier than you might think. Especially if you live near a major international airport, as I do. You can just have it shipped FOB and pick it up yourself. Saves a ton on shipping. I've ordered several kits directly from Germany and never had a problem.

I'm in the process of doing a summer refit of mine, so it'll be flying again this fall. An absolutely wonderful flying scale jet! And the kit is great quality very easy to complete. I recommend it highly!

You should probably also consider the New Comp Arf Tutor. They are almost exactly the same size, though I believe the Comp Arf is lighter.

RE: CT-114 TUTOR ALMOST DONE!

Dave Searles..........like minds ....!! I just completed a total rebuild and repaint of my Tutor after a crash in a crosswind i forgot to not use the flaps in a crosswind and the plane landed safely and on the roll out it lifted the port wing and flipped over on it's back , destroying the canopy and upper nose section where the doors are.. that was 18 months ago , i left it hanging in the garage roof for all that time till i could find the time to do the job... eventually i decided to strip the plane completely , repaint it the same scheme, and refit all brand new equipment , with a P 160 for power instead of the Peggy.. new servos and new radio gear all new air system etc etc same airframe..... Cost effective, due to the recession, it's just about finished , probably a couple of pounds heavier but I save a couple of pounds by swapping the peggy for the 160 so we will see.....Oh, and i never did take the agency ,the factory said that they preferred to sell direct... good luck with your refit....MK
