I did the maiden today on my retract ready version with an OS 55AX 11x7 prop. The speed was ok but I like the 75 much better, so I think I will be changing out to an OS 75. Did 2 flights today and the second one did not end to well and the main block/wood the retract was sitting on broke. It was very clean break which lead me to believe not much gluing was done in that area. I will have her fix and back in the air by this coming weekend. I used a set of retract I purchase from Hobby City for 100 bucks. The struts were 12.00 each. These retracts was a perfect dropped for the bobcat. They are air up\down. Retract handle will with the bad landing today.

I found the retract set on the hobby city site, where did you find the struts? I can''t seem to find the struts on the site.

Seems the price on Hobby City's website for these retracts is $120 now. For anyone interested I just checked TH's site and they now have the Robart 520W1''s in stock for $139.99. You can use the promo code for $10 off and the final price is $129.99, not bad. They are listed as limited quantity so better hurry if you want a set.

I ordered a set Thursday night, along with some other sundries, totalling ~$175. The order shipped at 1:30 this morning. Now let''s see how long it takes to get here!

Hello boys, long time lurker popping back up. I did the maiden flight on my PlastiCat the other day. It's the Coroplast clone of your fine birds.
I'm typing this at work so I can't get to putfile but I can reference the write up and movie links on spadworld.net if you care to check it out.
http://spadworld.net/forum/viewtopic...r=asc&start=60
You'll have to scroll down a bit for the write up and a bit further for the poor movie links.

I had fuel delivery issues that I'm hunting down but my main question concerns crab angle. I've read through here and other pusher threads but I can't recall anyone talking about a plane flying at an angle or "crabbing". It tried to yaw into a left turn but I dumped in some right rudder trim to maintain heading. You can't see it in the video but it flies along in a crab. I would think the thrust line is off but it REALLY looks straight when I eye down the head fins and the lines in the coro fuse. I guess the vertical tails could be off but those too look straight.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

I am getting close to finishing my Bobcat and I hope someone can help me. I am putting a YS61 2-stroke with a pipe on it. Now for the help, what size 3 bladed prop should I be looking for and who can I get it from. I believe a two bladed 12X10 is a good size prop for the engine, but if I can I would like to go with the 3-bladed option and finding a pusher prop is no easy task.

Thanks in advance,

Sticks

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

With this plane you want maximum RPM's from your engine.

I'm flying a 2C .76 GMS with an 11x8 prop.

The plane has unlimited vertical this way.

I don't think your engine is supercharged? Is it?

If so you may want a lower prop diameter/range to maximize the RPM's.

Hi i had kinda made my mind up to get a OS 55ax or should i get the OS 75ax? I just dont know i wanted to keep it as light as possible- But also as fast as poss!

Tim

Go with a Magnum 52,,,,faster than both those you listed. Mine flies 121 mph.

I don't think the OS .75AX would be a good choice due to the extra weight and the fact that you probably wouldn't be able to prop it correctly on this plane. Can't go wrong with the .55AX, APC 11x7p, and 15% nitro. A lot of guys have high expectations for record breaking speed from this plane but the fact is this airframe is not really built for speed. It will scoot along rather well with the right setup but at the end of the day it's a glow powered sport jet. [)]

My first one had a TH 75 and push this bobcat around well. I now have the retract ver with an OS 55. The 55 push it well, but I the the speed with the 75 little better. I will stick with the 55 as the engine is new so it still be broken in

I disagree.

I'm flying the GMS .76 which has a slightly higher bHP rating ( if you believe the manufacturer ) with the Graupner 11x8P prop, which is a perfect combo.

This is in the same power and weight range as the OS .75AX.

I'd stack either engine in this configuration against the .55AX this way.

I'll put my bobcat with the Magnum 52 against any 75 motor and I think I will win.

You're on!

With the Graupner 11x8P you'll eat my wake! :D

Opjose,,,I don't thinks so...all you will see is the prop on my bobcat and when we land, you will need 2 rolls of towels to clean the fuel resudue from your plane. LOL.....Our club would love for you to bring your bobcat to our site and fly against the other bobcats the members have. Actually, you would need to work you way up the chain to get to me.):)

Thanks for the info , think im gonna go os55 because if i get a 75 then i should of got a 90 you see.
What do you mean difficult to prop? because the best size inst available or ground clearence?
Tim.

Meekskin what prop you got on the magnum 52, i had a look for it in the uk but couldnt find it

opjose 04-25-2008 04:56 PM

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

He believes that it is difficult to get the correct prop for the .75AX in a pusher configuration.

However the Graupner 11x8P is perfect for a .75 engine.

It will produce higher airspeed than the 11x7P used on the .55AX.

Which is why mine will leave his in it's wake.

tizer33,,,I am using a 10X7 pusher and my magnum on the bench turns 15500 and when it unloads in the air I would think its turning close to 17000. Don't think Opjose can match that with his 75...One of our club member has a SuperTiger61 and he can't beat me.

Tizer33...go to towerhobbies and they sell the magnum 52, I think its 89.00US but it may be less

I come very close to that on the ground, turning a prop that is wider and has more pitch speed.

The ST is anemic by comparison.
