RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Flew mine with a YS 45 full length pipe and 10x6 prop. Plane took off of grass with a shorter than expected roll and climbed out at approx 50 degrees with authority. No trim needed. However blew a plug which forced a dead stick landing. Glide is very good and plane will hold high alpha if you need to slow down quickly. All in all I am happy.

I didn't have spare plugs so I didn't get more than the first flight on it. Prop will be changed to a 10 x 8 and the pipe will be tuned to match for the next flights.

That is interesting the recommended props for the TH .75 is 12x6 or 13x6 so in thoery either the 11x7 or the 10x8 should work I wonder, I will prob try a 10x8 but I want to try a 13x6.

Meanwhile, back to the Bobcat 50......

I can't find any screws in my hardware pack that fit the blind nuts in the stab...also the blind nuts for the engine mounts are missing. They can be replaced, but I will have to surgically remove the hardware from the stab... Anyone else missing hardware???

My stab needed longer screws. 2.5mm x 30mm I think. The motor mount didn't come with blind nuts, just lock nuts. I replaced mine with 6-32 hardware.

Mine did not come with the blind nuts for the engine bolts. It had some self locking nuts instead. I tossed them and the bolts because the bolts are aluminum and stripped very easily. Go to a hardware store and pickup 4 6/32 2" screws and self locking nuts.

The screws for the stab I think are 3mm, check a hardware store or you LHS for 3/4" screws, take the stab with you to make sure you get the right size.

I also used 6-32's to mount the engine. I had to make some larger blocks because the OS .91FX case is too large for the blocks that were supplied. Bob

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Mark,
I replaced the short 30mmx15mm screws with 30mmx25mm. The ones with the kit just don't get enough bite into the blind nut.
and vibration will definitely loosen them up. Go with the longer 30mm screws and put a minute amount of blue thread locker on
each.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

I had to make up some 1/8 x 1/2 inch plates to put on top of the blocks, the factory blocks squash to much, my first motor now has a distorted crankcase. Picked up a OS40 RSP never run of ebay for 160 AUD (about 110 USD) should be interesting 24000 RPM with 2.0 HP, going to mount the pipe inside the fuse, trying for light weight streamlined, current setup is a ported TT46 Pro turning APC 9 x 6 at 18500, very quick.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

I tried 2.5 and 3 mil bolts... they were still too wobbly, so I will replace them with DuBro hardware.........
