Dragon,

Are you using the nylon bolts on the tail booms, have you had any trouble?
[/quote]

I have the 2 steel hex head bolts securing the front of the booms and the nylon philips bolts on the rears. Haven't had any trouble although I reinforced the boom mounts and blind nut mounts) with a little hysol and ebedded washers in the wood for the recessed metal hex bolts and used plastic washers for the nylon philips bolts.

Sounds like a good way to go about it thanks, your experience applies to me more than most others because my Bobcat will also have a TH.75 for power. I forgot to ask what prop are you using and did you use the stock tank and in what configuration? I think the stock tank is a little small but what do I know. At present I am planning on plumbing the tank the normal way and running the lines back to the engine?

I designed and built a scaled down BVM BOBCAT several years and called it a Tomahawk to keep away from any copyright laws.
For engines that have a bolt on front hub with the carb or if the carb is in the back just rotate the hub carb assembly or rear carb assembly 90 degrees to the
right and the engine will run backwards perfectly allowing you to use any prop. The engine I am running is an OS65VFDF with the carb assembly rotated.
One prop not to use above 20000 rpms is a Mater air screw because the engine will sling the blades off. Use a zinger

Could you explain this in a little more detail, this is new to me but very interesting and I would like to hear more.

I noticed on this page NONY also makes mention of rotating the carbs but it will only work if the front hub w/carb is bolted to the crankcase.
All the ducted fan engines have a bolted carb assembly. Simply take out the bolts and rotate the entire assembly tighten it down and your
ready to go.

and this makes it run backwards? which way do you mount the prop?

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

You would use a standard prop mounted with the letters forward (just as if it were on the nose).

A couple mods I made to my Bobcat. Picts show the original main gear installation and my mod. Wires in the wing should run spanwise, not fore and aft, so they can act as a torque rod and absorb shock. Also moved the main gear 2" forward. Not much work to glue in grooved hardwood blocks and do it the right way. Also used an electric motor, worked fine, plane flies well, it's fast. A little too fast for me.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Keep in mind you still have to change the direction of rotation as spelled out above.

How many watts are you pulling? What hardware did you use??

I tried to install the landing gear tonight and found out I had two right landing gear (if looking from the back of the plane). I posted pics in the other thread in extreme speed prop planes forum.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

I used a Welgard C5055-06 motor and Welgard 70amp ESC from BP Hobbies, with an APC 11x8.5E prop and 3-cell LiPo pack, for about 730 watts. I think weight of system was about the same as any .45 glow engine installation would have been and think it flew about the same as a glow engine would have done. Review is in the January issue of MAN magazine.

Mistake - I meant a 5-cell LiPo pack, sorry.

3 cells?!? 730 watts?

Do you mean two 3 cell backs in series?

Or parallel?

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

Would need it in series to get enough volts for RPM to generate 40 sized glow power.

I'm sorry, typing goof, I meant a 5-cell pack of course, 5-cell 3700mah.

AGR,

I use the stock tank run backwards with the clunk looped back to the front of the tank. I had also installed a hopper tank, 2oz I believe. same configuration. I suppose the tanks could remain in the normal position and run the lines back. Anyway with the extra hopper fuel, your flight times are plenty, depending on throttle usage, 7-10 minutes. I use an 11x7P but the engine could use more pitch.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?

dragonpilot,

Go ahead and try an APC 10x8P. I first tried my YS 61 with the 11x7P and it flew fine, but took a little more
runway for take off and would leap off due to excessive elvevator. I switched to a 10x8P and now it takes off
smoothly and really moves out. All the guys at the field also commented on the drastic change.
Seem like a number of them went and placed an order thereafter.
