RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
ORIGINAL: SECRET AGENT Got mine today, looks good. I think I'm gonna pin the rudders to lighten up the rear and do away with two servos with extentions. I have an OS .55AX for it, if it is too slow I might stick the .75AX on it. Will likely go with spring air retracts. |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Todd,
The bottom teeth were in the tops were soaking LOL!! You better be at the field..if you remember how to get there :) |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Thanks for the heads up Larry, I'll look into that.

Please help
How do you mount your fuel tank in your bobcat 50. If I do it like the manual sayes the clunk is pointing to the tip of the plane, can this bee right. I would think the clunk should point to the rear off the plane. Thanks in advance |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Hey Frank40, You are correct about the fuel tank, read this, it is very helpful >[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/product_guide/kitexpertreview.cfm?editorial_id=565&kit_id=4554]Bobcat Review[/link]

Here is my Bobcat, and I want to know what do I do to find more rpm?
My engine is an OS 55AX and the propeller is APC 11x7, I have a Bobcat Ducted Pipe, but maybe a need to cut the header. Right now a found just 13300 rpm. |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Hi Guys,
I bought the one that is retract ready. I ordered [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVPROFIL=++&FVSEARCH=521RS&FVPROFIL=++&se arch=Go]these retracts.[/link] Now I see that these need struts to work so I am having to fashion some adapters so I can use music wire. Nothing like learning everything the hard way. The next obstacle I ran into was that the nose gear blocks were loose. I was able to remove one of them by just pulling with my fingers. Unfortunately, when I tried to epoxy it back in I broke loose the forward former that holds the front of the blocks while trying to push the block back into place. What a hassle that was. Here's my question. Do You normally use a pull-pull cable system to steer the nose wheel? How else can this be rigged? Also, Is the spring down type retracts a good way to go? This is my first time trying to install retracts. Thanks, Terry |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Terry,
Pull pull is a reliable way to set them up. Use rubber bands to pull the cables outward when the gear is retracted. This will keep the wire from getting in the way when the gear goes down. Spring down is the best for planes without cycling doors. With these if you lose pressure the default is down. PLus if you forget your pump, you can still fly. Mark |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Thanks Mark,
One more thing, the set came with a pretty small tank. Is this sufficient for this. How many cycles should I expect with this size tank? Thanks, Terry |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Terry,
Good question. I would set the timer at 4 minutes initially. That is about all I get with my YS45. Mark |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Hi Mark,
Sorry I wasn't more clear. I was talking about the air reservoir tank for the retracts. You are right about the fuel tank I'll bet. I think it is 12oz. I think I got about 6 1/2 minutes on the 12oz tank on my bench stand when I was breaking in the TH .75. That was running ST 0% nitro fuel with a cup of caster oil added to the gallon. That was running almost a full turn rich from peak. I was hoping to get a little better in the air but who know how much fuel it will consume once the prop unloads. If all goes well I will be flying it this weekend. I used to run a YS45 on a Hots years ago. I loved that engine. Blessings, Terry |

Thanks, Terry Don't you want to mount the gear into the blocks instead? e,g. use [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJZE2&P=7]THESE[/link] instead? You could always order a single replacement front gear. BTW: Tower will exchange them for you by crediting your card for the RMA... |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
At 90 psi without leaks you should get 3-5 strong cycles and a maybe another couple weak cycles.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I am reading my way through this thread. Up to page 34 so far.
You guys accomplished a lot in 8 months. I think I have enough information to go out and buy one. I have been price shopping at the following 2 web sites. http://www.texasrcplanes.com/index.html http://www.nitroplanes.com/ NitroModels BobCat $129.00 S/H 31.08 Total $160.08 Texas RC Planes BobCat $119.95 S/H 14.98 Total $134.93 Gee, I wonder which one to buy from? Thanks guys for all the good info. I do have one question. Which of these engines would be better for the BobCat? YS 40SE with a tuned pipe OS 55AX Standard exhaust I thought I saw where someone was getting 90 MPH with the YS 40 set up. How fast will the plane go with these two engines? Thanks in advance Greg |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
$37 to ship from Nitroplanes I just saw. Anyone else sell the retract ready version??

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
First of all, who cares? Second, if it bothers you that much call Bob Violett. I would rather read the daily posts about the cool Wal-Mart sub, the thread on the DL-50 and Bruce Tharpe Reaction You guys have too much time on your hands.

RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Do you mean YS-45? The YS-45 is a VERY powerful engine when run with a pipe (7.5cc). I am not very familiar with the OS-55AX however. On smaller prop-jets like a Patriot the YS-45 is close to the Jett-50 on performance-
They sell a retract ready version? That is what would make me get one :D |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Nitroplanes.com. Before you click to buy, there is a box that says you can add retract ready version for $10. Cost me $37 to ship. Thats my only hesitation. I am going to put an electric motor with 6.5lbs of thrust on her. Software gives 144mph pitch speed, so taking drag of the airframe...it should do between 110-120.

What size prop do you have with your OS 55AX? |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
ORIGINAL: WILDGAS Thanks for the video. What size prop do you have with your OS 55AX? Bruce |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Bruce,
Didn't think the 55AX would pull the plane that fast. Good job. The YS 45 I have, has only been run on the stock muffler. Is this engine user friendly with a pipe? What would be the best pipe to buy? What would the approximate speed be with the YS 45SE on a pipe? Thanks in advance, Greg |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
Greg,
A tuned pipe and friendly are not 2 words you generally see together. Everything is a trade off. A tuned pipe will give you the most top end power at the expense of low end and in many cases your transition will suffer. A Mac's 7.5 or 8.5 cc pipe will do. Either way you still must tune the pipe to your prop, plug and fuel. I am running mine at full length (because I've been too lazy to tune it) and it does ok. Currently I have a 10x6p and will go to an eight pitch or better soon. As for top speed, if you don't have the retract version, I think this plane is limited due to drag. If you want it to go faster add retracts, gear doors, put all servos and linkages inside and seal all of the various gaps. Mark |
RE: Nitro models pusher Bobcat?
I used to run my YS-45 on a full length pipe. I never tuned it and it ran great. Transition was very smooth and it was one of the most user friendly engines I ever owned. My YS-60 was the same way. I tried it with the stock muffler and there was no comparison in power. It is like a totally different engine with a pipe installed.
