Did you point the antenna directly at the plane and turn the plane at different angles?

I have had the same experience with the Deans base loaded whip antennae! My ground range was actually more with it than with the regular antennae! 487' ! It was about 5' less with the ECU and turbine on!!

We did everything but stand on our heads trying to get a lockout - not a twitch. The Deans was mounted vertically on the nose of the plane so it was more or less omni-directional from the getgo. I'd heard of guys getting over 600 ft. with this kind of setup but didn't belive it. I'm a believer now. I also know guys that swear they get more range with the Deans than with the wire antenna. Have a friend with a Boomer XL - has all but about 2" of the Deans INSIDE the nose (mounted vertically) and it works like a charm.

I get that no problem with a Multiplex transmitter and IPD receiver!

I have flown both PCM and PPM in high threat environments. Personally I am more comfortable getting warning glitches which may alert me to the weakening link. But I am always happy to listen to my peers on subjects like this. I understand the theory behind PCM, is there any concrete evidence that says it will be safer in the air?

I was present when both 'lock outs occurred' What i can tell you is that if that had been ppm both models would have gone home in black bags.
The fault turned out to the the TX but due to the pcm hold last commands the models continue the turns adn came back into signal range, both were then landed.
As the model were flying in a banking curve away form the TX at medium height, the resultant glitch's would have most likely put the model into the ground (or a hanger!).

This thread is not really the place to debate this subject, if you wish, i will give you a unarguable ground demonstration as to why you should fly PCM next time we meet;)
