Canopy almost complete, I was expecting to complete today but...took longer than I expected.
Pic 1 shows the front section of the canopy fitted and glued using RC modellers glue. This works well on canopies and dries clear. Pic 2 shows trial fitting of the 'cockpit splitter' this was cut off the canopy moulding because in real life it is inside. I decided it was not long enough as it had to he glued to the inside of the canopy behind the frame. So using the original as a template I cut another (slightly longer from white plasticard) and used that instead. Pic 3 shows that temporarily fitted. Pic 4 shows it glued in place and a centre line marked down the canopy to help fitting the Tailormaid MDC. Pics 5/6/7 show the MDC fitted. I am very happy with the Tailormaid MDC, very easy to fit and looks great.:D |

I have had a few PM's asking about the glue I used for the canopy.
It is RC Modellers Glue. Made by Deluxe. Als Hobbies stock it as I am sure does Motors and Rotors. Paul |

Ok guys, good day today.
Cockpit is finished to a level I want it to be at the moment. I still have access so I can put a pilot in if I can find a decent 1/7th scale one! I have started adding 'Tailormade' vinyl’s and some more fuselage detail. Really started to come alive now. Paul ;) |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
That is starting to look great! Any pics with wing on yet? May have to get one :)
|
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
Dave
I do have the 'standard' wing but as you know i am waiting for the new wing. I could do a photo of it with the current wing if you want? Yep it is going to be a great model, just the right size for the 44 Gold, and a typical family car. Paul |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
Yes, that would be great thanks Paul.
Looking forward to knowing the finished weight and seeing this one fly! May have to go with a Gold if 8.5lbs wont be enough to sparkle. Cheers, Dave |

More decals and details tonight.
I have been asked to show pics of the model together. The wing shown is the scale wing not the new slightly larger one. Hope you like it. Pics are duplicated, one with flash one without. Paul;) |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
That's looking great Paul! Any plans to reduce intake size? - that would definitely set this Hawk firmly above the rest imho.
That is certainly going to look stunning in the air. D |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
I think that at the moment there will be no change, but i know Jim has talked about it for the future.
I know the intakes are not scale but they really are not that bad. Much smaller than the AMD and somehow they just 'look right'. Paul;) |

Not much time tonight.
Just a bit more detail with the Tailormade decals. Paul;) |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
I totaly agree with Paul.
The "enlarged" intake somehow just 'look right'. The real intake are scale but don't look as good and as agresive as those of this kit. |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
The other advantage with the larger intakes is that this model can be flown (very well) on an OS 91 Ramtec / Dynamax combo.
Paul;) |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
Or any 10S-12S lipo 120mm EDF setup too ;)

RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
man those decals really bring the plane to life.
nice work amigo buck ORIGINAL: GrayUK Not much time tonight. Just a bit more detail with the Tailormade decals. Paul;) |

Sorry about the delay in coming back on, had lots of other issues to sort out at home.
Well. I have done all the construction on the fus for the moment apart from final fit of the cockpit. I am still trying to find a decent pilot to fit. If not it will fly without one...[X(] I have received word from FOX Comp that the new wing is fitted and about to be test flown. I have pictures showing a 'rough fit' They should be taken for what they are, just a rough set, but it does show how they will look. Also I have started on the installation. For power I am using a 2600 pack NMhi, 2 sets HD leads through 2 HD switches to 2 inputs on the RX bus. More tomorrow. Paul;) |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
Hello all,
I am new to this fourum bet have been flying models for about 7 years now. I recently bought an AMD Hawk allong with the Wren 44 Gold and found it to be a really nice model to fly, Unfortunatly on the 6th flight it all went wrong and the model ended up looking not to dissimilar to the black Hawk of Garry UK. The model was flying in a slight shallow dive when i went to pull out there was a total lack of elevator responce and the model went into the ground. After much thought and consideration it turns out that the Elevator servo was not powerful enough even ay 8.5kg@10mm. The instructions say to use a 8kg servo or more so i thought that 8.5kg wouls have been good enough. There is some pritty weired forces actin on the tailplane of the BAe Hawk and for the size of the AMD Hawk a 11kg servo is needed for the model to fly any speed. the forces were worked out in the Wind tunnel at Airbus uk where i work and were pritty high for such a small model. This may have been the cause of pauls model to crash?? So i was looking at the Jim Fox Composites model as a replacment. Many thanks, Chris. |
RE: FOX COMPOSITES Bae HAWK, Build thread
Chris
Sorry about your AMD Hawk. The Fox Hawk has a very good mechanism with mechanical advantage working in your favour. I do not believe this issue will show it's self so badly as it does on others. I have an 8kilo digital on mine and during the flight no issues were apparent with the tail. The crash was not caused by any issue with the plane that I can find. Now...no more work done recently...sorry...University and other issues keep getting in the way[:o] However, more will follow soon once i return from Bickley jets this weekend. I do have some news, hot of the press. 1) The new wing has flown, it was very successful and the mould is being made. I expect some pictures soon. 2) An electric version with the current wing has just flown very successfully. Very fast apparently and a perfect flight. Video and pics of this will be posted soon. Should be posting Monday or maybe Sunday if lucky. Paul ;) |

Sorry, no video yet...(its coming!)
Took the Hawks fus to Bickley Jets this weekend. There was a lot of interest. Took a couple of pics but one I like is the Hawk on the wing of the Skygate Hawk :) The size is ...just slightly different :D What is interesting is the profile comparison. The Skygate is very scale...the Fox Comp looks like it is pretty good too ;) Paul ;) |
