I believe (looking at it) it would be very easy to keep this as a two part wing.
You could glue it if you wish;)

Hi Paul,

Performance of the Overlander Fox composites Hawk was very good. The first flight was a test flight and it only lasted a few minutes. The second flight was aborted early because the weather changed (for the worse..It was scotland after all!!!)and the speed controller was not operating correctly..Overlander said it required A PC being connected and the programming of the Speed Controller altered. I don't know any more than that..but it was very fast with a short scale like takeoff on the test flight..

best regards with your arro's hawk
Dave

Just a quick update, the wing is underway, I have to say that Jim has done a great job on this wing.
The last one I had was excellent but this is a level above :D
The live hinges and the general attention to detail are excellent.
The quality really shines through.
Well-done Jim Fox Composites.

Aileron servo is now in and functioning [8D]
I am trying to get her ready for the weekend but we shall see.......

OK

Flap servo in tonight.
Method of operation is the same as with the last wing but installation is slightly different,

This time both servos are fixed to the upper wing surface with ply or balsa to spread the load.
Last time I fixed them to the hatch panels, which made it more difficult to do.
Pics show the flaps working from the servo, neutral, takeoff and landing.
Also the drive, which goes through the TE of the wing.

More tomorrow I hope.

Paul ;)

Sorry I have not been posting. [:o]

I did not get it ready for the weekend due to other distractions (family).

No pics tonight but work is on going, final install and wing fit.
Going well, should be finished tomorrow ready for test flight. :D
I hope to fly before the weekend and get some airtime then as well.
We have the National championships the weekend after and I am booked to fly it on the demo flight line.

Lots of pics tomorrow. ;)

Chaps, not quite done I am afraid...some bits and pieces took longer...(don’t they always )

The fus is pretty well done now, pics enclosed.

All radio install and systems in.
Weight is good, 7lb 12.5 oz for the complete fus with fuel in the UAT.
I am hopeful that final weight will be not far off the original model I built, even though it has more cockpit detail and the new wing.

More pics tomorrow.

Well ...getting close to flying time again ;)

I have managed to almost complete today..very little left to do, just a couple of odds and ends.

Total weight is going to come in at 11 lb 3oz with the UAT full of fuel 5 oz heavier...not bad as the last one was 10 lb 12 oz without UAT fuel, so very similar [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

Pics included the last fit of the wing and are self-explanatory.

I have elected not to glue the wing halves together, so I can, if needed split them in the future.

Whole model pics t'mrow

Paul;)

Well guys .....its ready to fly :D:D:D:D

A few bits of 'tarting up' to do once it has 'done the job'.

I am very pleased with how it has come out, although i did have to add 40grms of lead to the nose..[:o]

All in all a nice model, nice kit and great quality...all i have to do now is fly it
The Taylormade decals really set it off[8D]
Weather for to'row looks like i could be in luck..[8D]

Guys,

I had the pleasure of test flying Paul's F/C Hawk this afternoon. I will post the static shots I took and the video of the second flight with Paul at the wheel later tonight but don't hold your breath as it could be late. In the meantime all I can say is that it flys spot on. Controls set as per instructions are accurate and although I only got one flight in and took off and landed using take off flap, I did try full flap on a high pass and showed that this worked very well slowing the model and still good control power. I will let Paul fill in the details but suffice to say he has made a terrific job as you can see.
I think this is the L39 replacement you have all been waiting for.

Trevor Skedge.

You can be sure that I'll be tuning in back here later.

Jim sez that my kit is in the next batch for dispatch from Thailand - whoopee:D

Well, over the years I have test flown hundreds of models for myself and other people, but i have always said, don’t be too proud to let someone else do it if you are to close to the project.

Well today the weather was good and I suddenly realised that i was nervous about the flight (not normal for me) After what happened last time (true reason not really discovered) I decided to swallow my pride and contacted my good friend Trevor Skedge.
Trev has one of the Hawks with the scale wing so he has more experience with this model than any one else in the UK.

We arranged a time and met at the local field. Trevor did a full pre-flight check on the model and gave it the all clear.
Range check with engine running was fine so there was nothing left but to fly. [X(]

The 44 Gold fired up perfectly and Trev took control while I (very dry mouthed) followed with the camera.

Acceleration with the 44 on grass was brisk and a gentle application of up saw light under the wheels.:D

Gear up and then flaps, I took some photos on the take off but forgot initially when it was airborne

After one circuit I had to ask the one and only question 'how is it Trev'?

I looked away from the model to see Trev smiling, 'That’s hands off!" was the reply, no trim input just straight off the board. :):D:D

Trev followed with a couple of low passes throttled back (pics are included but they are not the best, sorry

Time passed quickly and the landing alarm was bleeping.
It was decided to land using take off flaps just to get the feel (we have plenty of room at our field).

A prefect landing approach was followed by a perfect touchdown right in front of us :D:D:D:D:D

Trev taxied back and I smoked 20 cigarettes [:'(]

Trev gave the model a full thumbs up, in fact he was waxing lyrically for a while. :)

It was my turn next and Trev got the video rolling.

Take off was great, tracked dead straight and then airborne :D

Gear up , flaps up and away. [8D]

I flew a typical test flight, with some low passes for the video (Trev will post later).

The plane is really nice, smooth a really groovy.
At no time did I exceed 3/4 throttle in the flight and the speed was very scale like.

Once I have settled down with the model I am sure it will be a ‘pocket rocket’.

The flight went by the book, no drama, no problems and the landing was perfectly acceptable for a 1st time!

Lots of pics enclosed and I look forward to the video of my flight (I haven’t seen it !).

Many thanks to Trev for taking time out at the drop of a hat to test fly with me ...Thanks mate ;)
Well Done Jim Fox Composites, a really nice Hawk.;)

Paul

All,

Uploaded the video but need to work on the quality. Should give you a flavour of the flight though. Thanks Paul for inviting me to test the Hawk with you and we should get some more (and better) video to share at the next Chalgrove.
