It is ARTF but not quite that ready to fly.:eek:

How do you think this Hawk would fly with the 'old' 44 (7lb'er)?

Due to Wren's policy of never overstating the thrust, most 44 7lbers are actually more. Many were over 8lbs.
With the Wren tailpipe as well, you can expect a thrust increase.

I believe that with the reduced weight of the production kits it should be no problem as long as you are not flying from a wet cabbage patch!

If Fox Comp can get the finished weight down to around 9.5lbs (should be possible) then there is no issue.

Mine weighed 10.5lbs last time and I expect this one to be less. ;)

I had a chance to weigh the Robarts and the 2 mains and the nose retract weigh in at 7.7oz. No wheels legs etc. Heavier by 2.7oz. they are rather stong with it though:D

Well
I have started proper now :eek:

Nose retract unit is in and former glass clothed.

Fin complete with servo fitted and rudder. [8D]
I have enclosed a couple of photos, there is no point in going into the level of detail I did before.

It goes together much quicker the second time round [:-]

All packed up now ready for Wroughton.
I am taking the F16 and L39, I shall fly both but the F16 is for sale if anyone is interested? (Too many projects, not enough room!)

I have been getting on again tonight.

Nice pieces supplied by Fox Comp.

The clips hold together extension lead plugs.

Really simple.
Push them in from the side.
I have a piece of tape around as well but heat shrink would be perfect.

Update.

Fuselage is really coming on well now; I am at the engine install stage. (It will be removed after).

This model is closer to production standard and has the new coloured tanks and wood.
The tanks are shown loose fitted and as you can see, there is a view window in the side to allow vision of fill level when the top hatch is open. [8D]
I am off to Hanover this week so i will not be able to do any more till Friday.

I am sorry for your initial crash.

Thanks to you, I believe that I finaly found the plane I was looking for my Wren44 that is still unpacked !:D:D

I was indeed very concern by the low number of kits available for "small" 10lb turbines. It looks like Jet kits manufacturer prefer to built for bigger turbines !

Do you have an idea when the "final" production units will be available ? Will it really be lighter and allow you to break the 10lb barier ??[&:]

looking forward reading the suite of the thread.

Many thanks for your kind words.
I am working with Fox Comp. to 'fine tune' the design of the kit.
Some of these changes will mean the aircraft will be lighter; others will make it a better kit.
I would point out that the Hawk as it stands is perfectly OK for a 44Gold, plenty of power and performance.
The changes that are taking place will only make it better.
Fox Comp already have the F86 Sabre which is released and fly’s brilliantly on a 44Gold. Other manufactures will realise the need, I am sure.
Grumania with the F100 to name just one.

I will be proceeding with the build as soon as possible, more posts soon.

Paul, your hawk build is looking good, any chance of a Pic directly above and below the fuselage openings, just want to see the layout to help with installation planning of my old JFM hawk. I will also be getting one of the new hawks for my other wren. Also found the remnants and plans of my old RCM&E Hawk. I think I must have a thing about Hawks.

Good to see some manufacturers taking notice of the requirement for smaller models.

The power to weight sticks out.
Just shows that the Wren 44 is ample power for the model, delivering better than full size power to weight.

Well..... back to the model.

I have now got the tailpipe in.
As an experiment I have left out the bypass tube.
I don’t use one on either the L39 or the F16.
These function perfectly with no heat issues.
It simplifies the installation and reduces weight.
I have discussed this with Fox Comp and they await the results of the test.

OK chaps, been busy today. :D
I have
1) fitted the top hatch and canopy catch
2) trimed and fitted the canopy frame.
3) Made the tank retainers.
4) Started painting [8D]

Starting to look good now.[8D]

Hi Paul, this is a great thread. Thank you for contributing. I bought a Wren 44 gold this week and am looking at airframes.. THis hawk looks nice as does the F86. What other models does Jim Fox have in the pipeline? Trevor's video is not showing up on the link, does anyone know if there is a link to it?
