This model was in RCJI in the recent past. It looked like it would fly like a hog. My condolonses to the owner. It is NEVER fun to loose an airplane.

I'd take insurance for much less than $15,000 euros! If the insurance companies are reading this, I'll give you some money! ;)

All this bloke is doing is bringing the low profile of model jets into the light what an idiot totally underpowered just a matter of time before it went in and as for his wife best of luck to her as anyone who chooses a toy plane over their soulmate deserves to be alone. His new girl freind must be a blow up one :D.

Don't like judging on just hearsay but the evidence for his membership to the pillock club is rather overwelming and not just on this thread either.

Why did it crash? was it pilot or builder error? The LMA need to get a grip on big jets, theres been too many high profile big jet crashes that is doing this hobby no good at all. One thing that does concern me is that regardless of the size of jet the pilot always seems to carry the same size extinguisher which is wrong , the pilot should at least have extinguishers capable of putting out a fire the oboard fuel would make.

Rumour is simply that one of the P120's stopped and it couldn't maintain height.

Good point Jase. It'll be interesting to see the LMAs report into the incident (I assume someone in authority will oversee such an investigation) which should cover the suitability of emergency equipment/support crew briefing/etc, as well as trying to ascertain the cause.

One spin-off from this, in my opinion, highlights the need for the JMA to take hold of the reins and get the basic competency standard for operators and pilots formalised, as was mandated at the last AGM and formally proposed to the BMFA shortly thereafter. If the normal BMFA Cttee process doesn't seem to be working, or isn't seen as being timely enough, (as I said, it's been nearly a year since Tom put the JMAs suggestion to the BMFA when they advised they'd consider some sort of C cert for jets), the JMA should put something in place for its members (before someone in much higher authority who reads the Sun does it for us!).

I would agree Jace,

we had a baby boomerang go in at our local last weekend, it went in about 300 yards away and by the time everyone got there plenty of the field was alight. Luckily there were plenty of people there to "stomp" the fire out after the fire extinguisher run out! (And this was on a small jet with relatively small tank

I don't know how many folks really heed it, but the AMA rules here in the US state that there must be a WATER fire extinguisher available on site. I carry an Indian firepump (http://www.nationalfirefighter.com/p...oducts_id=1253) in my trailer in addition to a CO2 for the turbine...

another issue to consider is his medical status.....on his website hes begging money to fiance his full scale flight training....shown sitting on mk9 spitfire....thing is it never gonna happen....hes a brittle diabetic....that means that for whatever reason.....hes taking meds irregularly/wrong dosage/delivery etc...his blood sugar level/glucogon are uncontrolled....to the point that his rabbit has to do the resucitation....hes liable to pass out and any time.........diabetic coma......this is one of the big disqualifiers for a pilots license.....also if dmv knew about the comas....he wouldnt be licensed to drive a car in most states and i assume the uk is just a strict!!!!!so the question is should he be piloting a heavy twin turbine model when as hes pointed out"i never know when ill take a turn"meaning pass out in a diabetic coma.......maybe he should teach the rabbit how to fly!!!kpc

Steady on, Dick, I was a Valiant driver, the Vickers built variety with 207 Sqn., until, quite literally, the wings fell off ! (OK, OK, some of you may say "point proven" !) ............and the fullsize was VERY underpowered too, 4 x 10,000 pound thust Avons for a 175,000 pound aeroplane.

Priceless stuff, though. I can just imagine the owner of the Hurricane declaring that he wants someone who has no flying experince to fly such a rare machine !!
