RE: smoke
Hey Ted, I am going to try that lamp oil on my extra this morning, since I have some here from the camping supplies, hehehe and I'll post a pic later.
I can see Angus Now, (Candaian Tire Man) running to store and stocking lamping oil and marking it up for r/c'ers :) Paul |
RE: smoke
KC, I looked all over for the lamp oil. It is probably seasonal around here too. How about the Citronella oil for the outside lanterns? I couldn't find any ingredients on the bottle but it might be close to the same thing. It is still cheaper at $5.67 per gal.

Transmission fluid smoke's like CRAZY ! And it is cheep.

RE: smoke
ORIGINAL: Hustler58 Transmission fluid smoke's like CRAZY ! And it is cheep. on the Tiki torch citronella oil I'm not sure of it's content but if you got it from HD they have an MSDS on it you can check that if you can't find it on the bottle. also if you can't find the lamp oil at HD/Lowes, wally world (Wal-Mart to you northerners) carries it in the section with candles and such, they have it year round here in sweet home Alabama even when Lowes/HD stop carrying it. kc |
RE: smoke
I just picked up a gallon from HD of the Tiki oil. will give it a go tomorrow and see how she holds up beyond the high alpha slow flight stuff.
|
RE: smoke
Tiki stuff didn't work for me(I should say, I didn't get the results I was looking for) but it kept the mosquitoes away. :D
gotta burn the last of my form oil / diesel mix then it'll be back to super-dri |
RE: smoke
Wise to do so OH THICK HEADED ONE!!!!:D |

RE: smoke
KC,
I picked up 6 1/2 gal. bottles @ $3.48 ea. in the candle isle at Wally-World. Bought them out. they had some pure and ultra pure oil too, but it cost more. I'm anxious to try it today. Should I cut it with tranny fluid? -SK |
RE: smoke
Transmission fluid smoke's like CRAZY ! And it is cheep. yeah.........but what does it do to your lungs ?? It can't be good.... |
RE: smoke
@SkyKnight, as seen in the pic above you get plenty of smoke without the necessity to cut it with anything.
@Wayne22, i can't speak for the others but i don't put my face directly up the tail pipe and inhale so i don't see the transmission fluid being a problem on my lungs from when i used to use it. kc |
RE: smoke
OK. I thought something had to be added for turbine systems. Isn't the feed rate slower on Pitts systems vs. turbine.
-SK |
RE: smoke
feed rate is heat generation relevant, you pump too much oil into a gasser it cools off the muff and the oil to the point it does not boil and vaporize, then you get one hell of a mess on the fuze because you're just blowing unburnt oil out the pipe and hardly any smoke at all because it's to cool to vaporize. on a turbine you can not cool the jet blast temp (EGT) regardless of how much oil you pump into it but you can pump enough it cools off the droplets of oil before it completely vaporizes on its way aft of the injection point so you can have residue left in the tail pipe. this is why you can add extra injector pipes around the circumference of the jet blast and get denser smoke. also if you squeeze the injector nozzle tip so it fans out the misty spray as wide as practical (depending on your installation) then you can pump more fluid per nozzle.
