Hi Gerald.

Good to hear from you.
I am hoping they will up the F4C limit to 20Kg's. (I wish)
I am building it to F4J rules, it should come out under 20Kg's.

Cheers.

Hi Glen

Hows your project going? I've made a little progress with my 1/5th single seater. I've pretty much got the wood work all sorted for the fuse. The booms are done and fit nicely and I hope to close up the fuse next week.

All my drawings are a result of reverse engineering of course and as a result there's a lot of fiddling before they get to the computer, however soon it'll be just the wings and tailplane....yipee!

I have all the patterns for the nose leg assembly done and have sorted the steering ...not easy on the little snub nosed single seater. All the nose parts will be investement cast and machined. I had a test set of parts sand cast to check out the way it works. The mains will be a piece of cake by comparrison.

Anyway .... a cople more pics ...I know it doesn't seem like I've done anything! Hope you don't mind of your site?

Cheers ... Brian

Hi Brian.

Good to see the progress on you Vamp. The 1/4 scale one is getting there, still a lot of work to go. I am busy at the moment with the wing, stab and boom plugs, should be able to start the moulds within a month.
The gear is at the machine shop (12 sets), all out of bar stock and plate.
Keep up the good work. I will post some photo,s soon.

By the way where are you going to fit your tanks?

Cheers.

Glen.

RE: 1/4 Scale T11 Vampire.

Hi Glen

They do take a while!

I'm able to fit two standard tanks (Dubro 32oz x 2) on the floor between the rear bulkhead of the cockpit and the turbine and will have a header between them. All in all it'll give me 2.2 litres which based on what I'm flying at the moment with my J-66 can be anything from 8 mins at full throttle ALL the time to 14 mins at a more sedate "Vampire" style pace.

I have a friend who flies a Sterner Vampire the same size and he says the fuel load ahead of the CG is not a problem ...in fact that's the way I have my Bullfrog set up too and it's fine.

I'm trying to keep everything weighty as far forward as possible and to that end the flight pack batterie(s) will be under the nose cap, the ECU battery under the floor/pilots seat along with the ECU. The RX(s) and air tanks will be behind the pilots back rest ...under those access hatches below the cockpit rails....hence the plywood tray set-up there. At this time the pump, solenoids and filters will be just ahead of the CG adjacent to the turbine. I was considering conformal tanks behind the inlet ducts but I'll go with what I've got for simplicity's sake at the moment.

I also plan to fit plumbing and attachment points in the wings to allow the fitting of overload tanks .... which would be right on the CG. Obviously they wouldn't be dropable but you could sure pack some fuel in two of those....gallons of the stuff in fact.

I'll post a pic of the fuse/boom assembly when I get it to that stage. I hope like hell I sell some!

Cheers .. BB

Some more photo's of the Vamp with wing and boom plugs in place to give an idea of the size.
Should start with the finishing of these parts soon and the be able to make the moulds.
All the wood work for these are done, the advantage of using Solid Works and Autocad.

Cheers.

Glen.

You guys are really talented. It looks like a spectacular build. I can't wait to see the finished jet. I can't believe the amount of high quality scratch builds I have seen on the RCU jet forums. You guys rule!

Hi ThomasP.

I would like to do it in a U.K. scheme, G-HELV if I can get enough photos and color documentation. I intend to take this model to the 2009 WJM so the documentation has to be right.
Do know of anyone in the U.K. that might be able to help.
We have a silver and dayglo Vamp localy but I am not to keen on it.

Cheers.

Glen.

Glen,

I have 100+ detail pics of this aeroplane - taken at Kemble last year that I'll put on a CD and send to you if you pm me your address. If you decide to do it, I'll find out where it lives and get any further shots/details you need.

Cheers,

Yes, I'll have a word with Aldridge when he gets back from fraternising with the enemy this w/e to get a contact...he flew for Air Atlantique towards the end of his career.

Meanwhile:
