H You never missed anything dramatic (not at Wtn, anyway...well, other than Lozzer getting pissed off with his Simjet!)...I caught Roger's F-18 on the last part of a barrel-roll...looks pretty cool, I thought! Must apologise to Ian Shaw for not catching his Flash and posting a pic...maybe throttle back a bit next time Ian, and I'll get it! Cheers, Dick England |
RE: A few pics from Wroughton
I will probably be at wrtn with the F-104 this coming Saturday for a change, have to display the Sabre at the Open Farms Day at chedders on Sunday.
I think it's a superb pic of the F-18, thats why I couldn't understand what Geoff is alluding to! Wondered if maybe it was in a deadstick dive again. H. |

H did, indeed, go to Wtn today...attached are a couple of pics of his F-104 plus one of Paul Lewis's freshly painted Skymaster MB-339 and another one of big Geoff's Hawk (which he kindly let me fly today...superb model, easy to fly and aerobat and loads of power spare from the AMT (NL) Pegasus!)

Super day at Wroughton today - not a breath of wind, clear skies and only Geoff White and me there! Geoff flew his new 1/3 scale Extra several times and I put another few on the Velox.
Cheers, Dick |

Another first flight at Wroughton yesterday saw Ian Bailey putting the first 2 flights on his stunning Venom model...built from a Mick Reeves kit (with just a few mods!) and powered by a JetCat P-80, Ian's model has outstanding scale detail. The light was crap at Wtn yesterday but I managed to get a couple of shots off when Ian was landing the Venom and I've included a few detail shots I took at St Athan on a nice sunny day in the next post.
Nice one Ian! Cheers, Dick |

Mark Littlewood and his girlfriend Stevie (lucky chap!) at Wtn yesterday with Mark's Falcon and new Eurosport, which he and Stevie finished at 0300 the morning! A 90 deg gusting x-wind stopped Mark from testing his Eurosport, but he gave the Falcon a good hammering! Also there were Geoff White (Flash) Rog Kilbey (F-18) Nick Smith (KingCat) and YT (Velox)...not a paint-stirrer in sight...too windy for them!

A question for the Gentlemen who fly at Wroughton.
I have a new Jet in need of a Tarmac runway for a test flight, can you help me? Unfortunately my club strip ( grass ) is very wet at present & St Athan is unserviceable due to runway resurfacing.:( Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, John Cockfield Cardiff/St Athan clubs. |
RE: A few pics from Wroughton

Hello Dick,
I reckon that Harry must have some sort of deal with the man upstairs, because last Sunday the same thing happened. We had a great afternoon while you were on way back from Jet Power. It was 17 degrees, no cloud and no wind.......... heaven? J |

Weather outstanding at Wroughton yesterday for the weekend pilgrimmage! Lots of jets there including Peter Keevil's absolutely stunning Gnat which flew very well until an uncommanded nose down pitch input on the gear pass before landing caused its demise. Cause as yet unknown.
Ian Shaw was there with his Red Bull coloured KingCat, which handled the breezy 45 deg cross-wind well, and I logged another three with my Velox (picture shows it with Bill Grimsley, on holls down in the south from his normal haunt in Glasgow!). Cheers, Dick England |
RE: A few pics from Wroughton
Sad news on the Gnat. Fantastic model and stunning pics.

RE: A few pics from Wroughton
Oh dear, that's a shame Dick, my commiserations I know how he feels.

Had a great day at Wroughton today...plenty of jet flying, and obviously word has spread about our fantastic site 'cos we were treated to two full displays by a pair of full-size Gnats which were working up their airshow display routine (haven't seen two Gnats in such close proximity to each other since the Reds days at Kemble way back in the late 70s!). The one painted in Red Arrows colours has only recently been restored to flight status after nearly 30 years on the ground and it's the only Gnat flying that actually flew as part of the Red Arrows team! Not models, I know (so delete if you must Mr Moderator) but interesting none the less!
Cheers, Dick England |

We had one of the best days yet at Wroughton today! 10 jet fliers were at the club today and after 1300ish, we had the field to ourselves. Not just that but the weather was perfect.
Davis Gladwin joined Geoff and I, as did Paul Lewis, Nick Smith, Mark Woodland, Roger Kilbey, Phil Mackie, Kevin Smith and Trevor flew a variety of Kingcats, Bobcats, Flash, Velox Foxjet, Elans and a Skymaster F-18 (Roger's). David Gladwin's Bobcat must be one of the most travelled models around...he brings it across from Australia to fly during his summer holls here in England - and notched up another 5 flights today, bringing the total for this Bobcat (he has a pair) to 187. Herewith a few pics... Cheers, Dick England |
