BVM Electra Build

1 Attachment(s)
The replacement for my Maverick (RIP) arrived ealier this week and the Yellow F-16 build is nearly completed so I thought I'd start a thread for the next project. Not shown in the photo is the wood for the wings, plans, thrust tube, and instruction booklet.

The planned power set up is:
Fan -- TF4000
Motor -- Neu 1527 1.5Y
ESC -- Not sure which one yet
Batteries -- TP Extremes 12S

This set up is currently installed in a Schriener F-18 and produces 4500+ watts and 15+ pounds of thrust with a bifurcated exhaust duct.

I will be using the retracts, struts, and wheels from the Mav.

Hi Kirk,

Nice looking kit. I have been looking at one of these myself.

How are your planned fan, motor and ESC different from the BVM offering?

Thanks,

Hi Matt,

The system I will be using takes about the same amount of input power as the EVF but should produce 2 to 3 pounds more thrust and is lighter. The fan is made from carbon fiber and weighs 4 ounces.

Hi Barry,

I'm not using the Ork motor on this one. I'm using the exact same motor used on the EVF system, a Neu 1527 1.5Y.

Started on the Electra wing. First one is built and ready for bottom sheeting. I used the flex plate and retact unit from the Maverick. I had to slightly modify ribs 1, 2, & 3.

Thanks,
TJ

TJ, with the speed at which Kirk builds, he may have it on display at the open house at the swamp!

Thanks TJ. It is going together fairly quickly.

The flaps and ailerons are were built right onto the 1/32 ply sheeting. The photo shows one of the set framed and ready for top sheeting and the other set completed.

Once the flap/aileron set is completed, they are cut apart and the leading edge is glued to the aileron and then shaped. The photos below show the flaps and ailerons hinged and fitted to the wings.

Great job Kirk, have you thought about your paint job yet? Any ideas?

that setup should rock kirk! I know it'll be ok but might want to start with low timing then bump it up after you get an idea of loads through the BVM inlet. its short and twisty so it will raise the load a tad, but that motor is practically bullet proof so it'll do it.

Thanks Ian. I liked the Israeli scheme on the F-16 so much that I will most likely do the same on the Electra. I haven't put on the wing tips because if I do the Israeli scheme I will use the missle launchers and missles from the F-16 as wing tips. I also plan to do panel lines, rivets, and weathering.

RE: BVM Electra Build

Hey Barry your right. With this setup, the Electra should be one of the fastest EDFs out there and faster than an EVF powered one. The only difference between my setup and the EVF will be the fan. The TF4000 is much lighter than the EVF (wieghs 4 ounces) and beings it is purpose built to utilize electric power, it should be more powerful using the same input power of 4500 watts.

Hi CF,

I will be using either the TP 5000 mAh Extremes or the 7500 mAh Extremes sold by BVM.
