Thrust angle on a Hotspot

My Hotspot takes about 3-400 feet on pavement to take off with 18# thrust, it weighs 18#. Does it need some upthrust set in the turbine?

I would not change the thrust of the engine. Is the airplane sitting level on the ground or slightly nose up? My guess would be that your plane is either sitting level or you have a C/G problem. Slightly nose up will shorten your take off roll. Don't raise it too much. On landing the plane could become airborne again or start to bounce if raised too much. Also, your C/G could be too far forward. There is a lot of latitude when playing with the C/G. Wilcox's suggested C/G is very far forward. I don't have my HotSpot any more...Perhaps those of you that still have your planes could chime in concerning the C/G.

Rick,

I, too, had mine where Wilcox suggests the C/G should be and mine flew fine. I was told by Jason Somes that this location was pretty conservative as he moved his back pretty far. I did have to lengthen the strut some to get mine to rotate better---But, I did have 3 liters of fuel on board!!!

I have the CG where it said, fuel tank empty. It flew very smooth and rolls were axiel.
I can try a more rearward CG when it warms up here, I don't fly under 50 degrees anymore.

bjdbair, how much fuel are you carrying? 2 to 3 liters of fuel weighs a few #s........
