F-15 'Streak Eagle'
 

Hi there, I am in the process of finishing my Aeroloft F15, in 'Streak Eagle' colours, or lack of : ) I was hoping to get some advice on possible web sites or sources that may have colour pics, may be some good close ups of the F15 'Streak Eagle' I do have some pics already, but the more I can find the better. Any advice would be appreciated...

Heres a pic of my F15, I have just started covering the wings and tail feathers with Flite Metal ali covering, I will also be using BVM Metal-Kote paint to complete the varied metal textured finish. Very time consuming but will really look authentic.

Not sure about where to find the best photos. There are tons out there. I purchased Squadron walk-around and Verlinden publications on the F-15.

Hi there Paul, your cockpit looks awesome! great work... can you tell me some more about it, eg is this cockpit available? I would like to get one of these if possible? As I just have the standard ABS vac. formed kit version.
Also do you know of any full body 1/9 scale pilots that may suit?
I have agreat 1/6 scale pilot in my ADF16, and this has spoilt me as to pilot choices... Paul do you have any pics of your F15, got me curious to see your 'Eagle' after such a great cockpit...

F-15 Cockpit stuff
 

Marty, The cockpit is going to be something. It is for my sons' F-15C (singl place). The cockpit is going to open very scale-like, including the entire rear deck, revealing the TEWS bay and all its contents. I fugure it'll be done around 2010 or so, just kidding, although it is a project in itself. The rest of the model at this point, is nothing to get excited about. It is currently flying and getting the bugs worked out. I am leaving the existing cockpit untouched and the one I'm building is an alternate. I will post picture as the construction proceeds. Eventually, the entire airframe will match the detail of the cockpit.
As for the pilot. Too bad there aren't 1/9 scale pilots the quality of the Aviator series that you posted. I got my son the F-15 Aviator pilot and he will be used for reference. In my opinion, the Aviator/GI Joe type figures add too much weight. I am a big fan of the DGA type of pilots. Body sewn and stuffed with batting, latex head, hands and feet, sewn clothing (see the pilot in my cessna at <http://home.san.rr.com/aircor> ). Time consuming and very light. As far as helmets, there is a series of 1/9 scale helmet collectibles on the market that are very nice. They are the Gentex HGU-33 type and not the current issue HGU-55. But they are made of heavy metal and the helmet is not completely hollow. I used one to make a mold and cast a new shell from epoxy. Very nice (see attached). I have also made my own latex pilot bust (to attach to sewn body).
I could go on all day, but won't.

Hans' F-15 was Beautiful.


Especially when the sunlight reflected off the finish!
He flew it to 2nd place overall at the 1st Jet World Masters.

What F-15 Kit do you have? That Cockpit, from the Blue Box Toys Elite Aviator series is 1/6 scale. I've seen a thread where there is to be a 1/6 scale F-15 sometime in the future but was unnaware of one now. Have you weighed the cockpit and pilot. I'm thinking at least 3-4 lbs. even with the portions of the cockpit that you have removed to make it work. Is it for flying or static? They sure are nice looking.

I can guarantee you tha none of my jets are static, I'm sure most of you will agree with me :D this is a 1/6 scale cockpit yes and it will go up with my beast. Go to Superman and you will see what I'm talking about.

At one time I was considering modifying the Blue Box 1/6 F15 cockpit for my 1/6 AD F16, but when I saw the weight of the cockpit unit, decided it would not be s good idea! however a 1/6 F15 is one big puppy! and if built light could handle the extra weight a slimed down example of the Blue Box cockpit.

I ve had gourgeous Jets man but I tell you this is the most detailed and most beautyful cockpit I've ever had in any of my jets. This is one of my greatest Insentives to make this a winner.

yes there is a 1/6 scale F-15 floating around. I guess the manufacturer is still working on it, but my guess is that is where this one came from.

That plane is so big that it could pick up this cockpit and a bricko block no problem. As I mentioned in the other thread I think it is a splash of the Byron F-15, so you could even go on the used market and get a 1/6 F-15 right now.

And I have one of those cockpit too, they would be perfect for this jet.

Hi Marty, The original Streak Eagle is at the Dayton Air Force Museum now. It was getting in pretty bad shape from sitting in those Ohio winters. I think they painted it to protect it. They really stripped it down to nothing for the record attempt. If I remember correctly, they made wood plugs for the wing tip lights to save any weight possible. I do remember that article on how they finished that F-15 in the natural finish of the Streak Eagle. I think it was pretty labour intensive, but with that cockpit you have, you have to give it your best shot. Good luck, Bill Harris

They also removed all "unnecessary" equipment to save weight. The pilot had to use a handheld radio.

The videos show the plane in full A/B being held back by the tail hook and a cable just before takeoff.
