RE: Cermark F16

But any one actually flown the CERMARK F-16 on tailerons ? not another model..

i know Tam has all of his on tailerons, but any first hand expirience with Cermark's ?

RE: Cermark F16

yes i flew my Cermark with tailerons, i set it up via a mix so i could activate it with or without ailerons, the best of both worlds. but i didn't, nor would i, remove the ailerons from a setup that already had them nor would i shy away from one that didn't have ailerons.

tailerons work great, they IME/IMO have no disadvantages, on the plus side it's simpler to setup, uses less channels on the radio, less servos, less weight and you've got MUCH better slow speed roll control. David, if your only complaint is the roll issues, use rudder only, every F-16 I've flown does a spectacular long slow roll opposite of the rudder input.
Actually I use all four channels on slow rolls. But on jets, by the time the turbine reacts you're already done! [8D]

Guys,

I mean that im building a new one, and could cancel the ailerons for a simpler, lighter setup !

So you wouldnt recommend it ??

RE: Cermark F16

I wouldn't. Do what KC did if you want and have it both ways. That really makes sense.

Here is a pic of mine out of the box...... I cant seem to find the servos recommended in the instructions but the ones for the ailerons will need to be thinm to get them in. I might try the spektrum servos as they are 5kg and 19 mm think..... I like reasonable servo's but am not into overkill

Made a Start

Well I have made a tentative start on her...... She looks like she will be a very easy build. I have glued the ailerons in place using the Supplied hinges... These are fine in my opinion but I am sure many of you will want to throw them away and use Robarts...... I have used them and they have stuck like the brown stuff to a blanket I cant pull them out..... We can now of course start the great servo debate and those who like to spend as much on the Servos as the plane can all chip in and tell me I am doing it wrong ;)...... You must remember that I treat a Jet like any other Mediun Sixed RC aircraft and love to dispell many of the myths that seem to surround Turbine powered planes. Jets are in my opinion not a black art as many seem to think. Well off the soap box now....

For the Ailerons I could not source the small servos as recommended in the instructions in the UK but have used the 5KG Digital Spektrum DS821's. These are 19 mm thick which is approx 1.1 mm less than a standard servo which is very important as a standard servo will not fit in. I had to dremmel a little of the servo case and scratch about 0.3 mm off the wing sheeting on one side and now it fits.

If you use these servos you will have to make your own mounts as the supplied ones (That are very good) won't fit. I just used the conventional method of wood blocks that I have used on many of my planes. I also cyno the servo to the plate at a few points along its edges.

The aileron covers come prefitted with nice little painted screws

Aileron Push rod

Having said I like to use the hardware etc supplied in the kit You can all shoot me down cos I have gone and changed out the supplied Aileron Pushrods and clevises for 3 mm dia rod and metal clevises. I like these cos they are very rigid strong and give zero slop. I always use 3 mm nuts on the threaded part of the rod to tighten against the clevises and then once the ailerons are set correctly I appl a little locktite to the nuts.

That will do for my little start tonight

I just noticed that the wing spars have a second carbon tube glued inside them. I had read that this was a weak point and am now wondering if on the new kits cermark have corrected this. I was also looking at the front undercarriage mount which I had also read was weak ant think it looks good.... Perhaps they have also strengthened this in the new kits

I Am building the Cermark F16 as well, I have found the hardware in the kit terrible! The Metal elivator horns dont fit into the covers, They need grinding down, The elevator movement is restricted by the horns, which are fowlong on the inner skin og the upper fuselage. And the screws provided to mount the U/C sheered off when i wound them in! I was expecting Better quality accessories woth a £900 kit!

you paid £900 for the Cermark??

Thats the RRP! I got it through the shop i work in! But if there pitching their kit at that price, You expect Quality!!

I Have changes the screws for 4mm bolts and nuts. Works better, but the nose leg is still a problem. The intake masks the underside of the retract unit, making it dificult to get a nut on the back of a bolt. A Better screw mite me a plan here. Will keep you posted on the outcome!

Thats the problem with this hobby in the UK. We are being ripped off everywhere!

KC36330 01-20-2008 10:52 AM

RE: Cermark F16

shop elsewhere, international shipping via UPS/FedEx/DHL plus the UK tax shouldn't of cost you anywhere near £900 for this kit.

RE: Cermark F16

No! Customs will sting you if they even suspect that its worth more than £30 and its coming into this country. 1 spektrum RX cost me $30 import tax!!!!! Not worth it!!

A suggestion - before you install the turbine and pipe, make up some side rails from good 1/8" or 3/16" ply and "box in" the main gear mounts (i.e. to the front and rear fomers that the gear mounts attach to). The plywood used in the kit is poor quality and very weak, I had mine break on both sides after hitting a large rut in a runway surface at relatively low speed.

It flies very nicely, on taileron or ailerons and elevator (I have both set up, using a TX switch to turn on and off, just for fun) but it does get very small, very fast.. ;)

The price we pay in the UK includes the Jetpipe Tanks and Retracts also whick are not included in the $695.00. But you guys in the US are very lucky what you pay in $ we tend to pay in pounds. Mind you we are a lot better looking !

I have read about the plywood but I have a feeling Cermark have fixed the problem I also read about adding a second carbon tube inside the wing spa but on the ones we have this has been done. In respect of the plywood it is a very close laminate and is about 8 mm think I have a feeling Cermark have attended to this problem I will email then to find out
