Are you really going to risk $ 1000's of dollars of equipment in a cheap Chinese ARF ?? [:o]

Good luck with your Formost 150 / 160

Just about every arf is cheap and chinese if you think about... before you doubt the formost 150 look at the success of the Falcon 120.

I respectfully disagree...there's inexpensive and then there's CHEAP, as in dangerous. The Almost 150, in it's stock form, is a danger to our hobby.

It's funny to note that everyone starts calling it "Almost" already, instead of "Formost".... :D:D:D

Highthorse........mmm good handle for you:D
I believe that there is an expectation (at least under AMA rules) that a certain amount of modeling competency is required to get a Turbine waiver in order to fly Turbine powered aircraft.

I would not like to see our right to make what ever model we want taken away by a few un-experienced modelers.

Look at what happened to general aviation industry in the US due to lawyers.[X(]

Just tried several times to call but the line is always busy.. Did you just order online today??

RE: Nitro Models Formost 150 are in the USA

I ordered on Tuesday afternoon, right after RCISFUN posted that Nitro had them on their site. Got e-mails yesterday afternoon that it had shipped. Showed up around 11am today.

It looks about the same as all the other Chinese ARF's I've seen/had except it's definitely going to need some extra work. Best I can tell, there are no nose gear blocks installed, but there are two bulkheads to glue them into. You have to cut out the nose gear opening and install the wheel well.

The bulkheads will not "just fall out". They're in there about as good as could be expected (for this kind of ARF). There are places where I'm going to have to hit it with the glue gun. The Asian ply isn't the world's greatest, but I'm going to leave it the way it is for now. As it is, the fuse is a little heavier than I expected.

The rear engine bearers need just a bit of grinding to clear the mounting plate screws on a P-80, anything smaller will fit easy. The bearers are hardwood and need some extra glue.

The top hatch is clearly made with the intent to be a prop airplane. It is held on with 4 bolts, a definite pain to open and close for turbines.

The booms are way too flimsy as is the fin.. I have some two part expanding foam I experimented with yesterday that I'll fill them with.

Can't see the main gear mounts so I'll have to decide what to do there. It really does need a full length spar. Too bad they didn't include a nice CF one.

They included everthing for a fixed gear installation. Some of the hardware is going to get tossed. There was a large plate for mounting a piston engine and another loose equipment plate. Wheels and tank were inadequate.

Otherwise, I expect the usual annoyances during building, i.e., none of my stuff will fit right, nothing quite in the right place, etc. But, hey, with any luck, it will turn into a good beater jet.

I was told that they received 39 of these and the next shipment will be due in 4 weeks.

Mine is on the way....due Feb 27th, if I get it on time I will take to FL Jets so we all can fondle it:D

RE: Nitro Models Formost 150 are in the USA

Nice to know, wondered why my fuselage installation looked different. Things are glued in about at the level as on my Velox - which is about as good as I've seen. At least there's not a ton of glue in there that's not holding anything together like many I've seen. But, there are a few spots to touch up, as with the Velox.

In fact, they added an extra equipment plate near the top of the two forward formers, which is nice, but I think it's mostly in the way.

BTW, the inlets have to be cut open. My decal sheet had peeled apart and was stuck to the top of the box and the instruction book.

RE: Nitro Models Formost 150 are in the USA

Short answer is no. It's all put away for the night. I'll see if I can get some tommorrow.

I got some 1/2" split plastic tubing for wire bundles at Home Depot to run down the booms before I fill them with foam. Luckily(??), the aft boom former isn't full height and so the tubing fits under it. With a little care, I'll be able to insert & remove servo extensions if I ever need to. One annoying thing on the fins is they put the elevator & rudder servo cutouts on opposite sides of the boom. I was hoping to have everything inboard. Two servos at opposite ends for the elevator. Pretty much forces you to use two channels or a match box for what should have been an easy center servo install.

I have no idea how to do nose wheel steering if I install the wheel well for the nose gear. Maybe I can go around it. There isn't any mount for a steering servo and the instructions say to put it in the (uninstalled) nose wheel well for a fixed nose gear. I can feel a second former in the wing stub where the inboard end of the main gear rails are. So there is some extra reinforcement there.

OTOH, I'm going to have to cut a hole in the side wall of the main gear wells to get the retract unit in such that the "up" air line has someplace to go. Then I'll have to somehow feed the airline into the fuselage. As expected, none of the landing gear equipment I hoped to use is going to work.

There are two relatively huge rectangular cutouts in the wing for access to insert the wing attach bolts. There are 4 similar sized white rectangles in a parts bag that may be be covers. Nothing in the instructions about it and I haven't cut them open to look inside either. A royal pain to attach the wings.

All the hinges are CA hinges, 3 per aileron. Haven't checked the elevator. Haven't seen the hinges to the rudders yet. They may be there, but I've been ignoring the hardware.

The extra equipment plate intended for the back will fit in the front with very little effort which will help make up for some of the space they made inaccessible.

Two of these 32 oz tanks will fit in the fuel bay if laid on their side:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNG62&P=7

For all that, the only work I've done is install an air tank in one of the sets of holes for them.

Thud_Driver,
Here is the nose wheel steering design that I am planning using, this is my first mock up for my Cermark MB 339 that I am currently building, I decided that I need to lengthen it a bit so I can flip the servo around to the top so it doesn't hang down so low.

I saw this being utilized on one of the China built ARF's and though that was a cool idea, I hope I didn't infringe on any patents.... [X(]:D:D:D
I also used this on my JL T-45, it keeps everything simple, no sliding linkage, no pull pull wires, just one compact unit.
