RE: NEW Comp-ARF UltraLightning!!

Bit more info that I was asked about...

The wing tips add 10 inches to the wing span. Larger wing area, lower wing loading and slower landings!

The sweep of the wing and stab has moved weight back meaning the all the nose weight most original Lightnings had to carry can be removed in this version.

The wings have received hard points to mount Underwing Tanks

New fuselage tweaks include intake changes to allow for efficient use of the 40+ lb thrust turbines.

Great!
And can they be ordered in the old schemes, say Jolly Roger and still match my old fuse???
Not had that formally confirmed but I am pretty sure that is the idea and no problem.

Mark

Yes they can! Wings, tail and, I believe, fin/rudder will all fit the original Lightning.

As the owner of both a Lightning and Flash so far I feel I am the only one swimming against the tide here. I hope Carf leave the Flash shape as it is as I cannot abide the current trend towards those dxxn pointy upswept tips that so many sport jets have now. I am not against genuine improvements such as sweeping the wings back on the Lightning to achieve the correct CG without noseweight but I suppose I must accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder (as they say). I am glad I have the old shaped editions in this case especially as I seem very prone to always buying things , not just modelling goods, only to open the next months magazine to be greeted with pictures of the "new and improved" version of that which I have only just purchased the month before. Only down side to me in this case I suppose will be comments such as " oh I see yours is the old version". :-). Paul.

Do you know if the wing/stab sections have been changed?

Rob.

Will the the new Überlightning still have main gear doors or wheel wells like the Flash?

Any spy pics of the bottom of this new design?

I hope they did not copy the folding nose.

Any pics with the new fuz yet Dave?

Rob,

Fuselage mods at the moment will be limited to larger intakes/ducts for the bigger turbines.

Potential face lifts to keep this model fresh and up to date may follow a little further down the line.

Mark

ok,thanx Mark, so no immediate plans for a complete new fuz, just a larger intake/bypass version?

Rob.

Dave,
Do I detect trailing link mains?

Give it a new fin :)

schroedm 02-25-2008 06:55 AM

RE: NEW Comp-ARF UltraLightning!!

SJN, I mocked up a new design fin similar to that too.

We haven't ruled out future improvements/facelifts to the fuse/fin but for now it's the new wings/stabs for all Lightnings (new and old) and bigger intakes/ducts as well as new wings/stabs in the new Ultra kits.

Yep, trailing link mains fitted to that model. Maybe for testing purposes or possible new production gear. Will find out.

Mark

I hope Andreas can be talked into trailing link mains on the new kits. That would be one of the biggest improvements for us frequent grass flyers.

That's is design feature in case the pilot wanted to bail out (budget reductions eliminated the ejection seat!) [&:]

Guys

Composite ARF have a big booth at FJ, go along and make requests I'm sure they will listen.

Bob Behotec have been working on trailing link struts for the whole range of Composite models so I'm sure it's part of the production plans

Info now up on Comp-Arf's site - looks like trailing link struts are a go.

Hanger 9 had the ULTRA name long before BV and powered heavier than air flight came from Wilber and Orville, or was it the One that made Eagles? There are no original ideas just improvements. The UL looks great!

RE: NEW Comp-ARF UltraLightning!!

Does the UL have an increased jetpipe diameter to match the intakes for larger engines?

I still can't get past the banana fuse. Perhaps it's only the paint scheme.. but the fuse looks bowed.
