x vs y
Aeropoxy is good stuff, no doubt. I was a production engineer on a full scale plane that was held together with adhesive. That was high-temp cure though. We used Hysol for repairs though. Don't know if it was exactly the same stuff as this - it sure looked and behaved the same. Now, that was metal-metal bonding.
Anyway - for the vast majority of applications in this hobby, including jets, regular epoxy with cabosil will be just fine. BTW- on that very same FS plane, metal to composite bonds were done with cabosil thickened resin. That tells me that there's no clear choice, and it depends on the application. Those that say aeropoxy is stronger than regular thickened epoxy, based on sanding resistance probably have never tried to sand on cabosil. Anyway, the only way to tell is to look up relative strengths or pull-test some yourself. Either way, if you need some kind of miracle resin, it may be a poorly designed joint. You don't necessarily NEED the aeropoxy. It does seem convenient and dependable though. Oh, and with turbines - what we are calling "regular" epoxies usually begin to loose strength well below 200 deg F. So, aeropoxy may be the only way to go around a hot engine. |
Aeropoxy
The biggest advantage, to me, in using the Aeropoxy-like epoxies is the long reach of the mixing nozzles. I only use it very seldom, usually when I need to reach WAY down in the nose of a fuselage or something to put it right where I need it. In regular situations, Anchor Bond or Zap, or West Systems, thickened appropriately, is the way to go due to cost. Strength is either just as good or plenty enough (as long as the joint is a good fit up and clean).

50mL tips
Not to start a war but BVM prices are only $0.05 more than http://www.hillas.com/Dispensers_and...rs/Default.asp prices on the 24 pack. And with the march special being 17.5 for 24 that's a lot cheaper than the $0.84 that Hillas is selling them for.
I think if you stock up as most of us do you are not caught and have to pay premium price on things when you need it. |
be careful
on stocking up, the 9462 has a limited shelf life, if it did not I would buy it by the case
PS what glue is on the hillas website that BV sells?? |

You can also buy 3" and 3 1/2" nozzles from http://www.glueguru.com - the 3 1/2" nozzles are also about 70c each. From glueguru tho, you need a minimum $150 order. For most folk that's probably uneconomical, so you may do best to just stick with getting them from BV... Gordon |

Guys,
I got some nozzles from my dentist. I noticed the glue gun she was using for crowns was the same as the one we use for epoxy. I asked her to add a few more nozzles onto her next order. I think they came out to about .25 cents each. I even got a few with curved tips (90 degrees). Mark M. |

I'll be stocking them next month. If any you guy need 50ml tube. I sell them for $11.99 each. Dispencer gun $44.99 0.85 cent for 3" or 6" nozzle. Tam |

9462 Shelf Life
I purchase 9462 from a local supplier, @ 6.50 tube. I store it in the freezer. Have never had a problem with the shelf life. I buy it by the case (10 to a case) usually purchase ten cases and split them with a few builder friends here. Nevr had a tube go bad and I have stored it for over a year.

Hi Kevin
That sounds great, I did not know it could be stored that long.
You should try some 9460, it dries faster almost the same properties, if you want to split some of that up I would love to get in on an order, I can get you some jetcat filter orings (inside joke) |

When did the last time you bough your 9462 Hysol? I have to buy by over 100 tube to get $7.52 for wholesale. Other wise cost me $9.52 for buying 10 tube. Hysol sold their company. The new supplier raise their price over 100%. If the place you still can get it for $6.50. Can you give me their information? Tam |
Aeropoxy

Loctite 9462
Tam,
I purchased @ 15 cases 2-3 momths ago. I purchased it through my company, but you should be able to do the same with your company. I also had to pay sales tax, so the price will be cheaper for you. They were very friendly to deal with, they normally do not stock the 9462 but are happy to order it. I will check my receipt when I get home tonight and find out who I dealt with, it is always good to have a name of a person to go to. Here is the company's info, I could not find a web site for them. Worse comes to worse, I can by it for you and ship it out to you, if that works. APPLIED PRODUCTS MINNEAPOLIS, MN Phone: 612-933-2224 Kevin P.S Mr. Reid sounds like he has found a good source as well, the price he found was 7.50 a tube, very well may have gone up to that sisnce I last purchased. P.S.S Mr. Matt, I will check into it. Does it have the high viscosity that the 9462 has? |
Aeropoxy
My source is Applied Indutrial Technologies. They have branches all over the country and supply bearings, adhesives, etc... for factories.
