There are no plans for the DV8R, only an assembly manual. The parts were all laser-cut and tabbed together, so no plans were necessary to build it...

I liked the layout of the DV8R but I downloaded the manual & scratch built one a little smaller for my Wren turbine. Do you want me to send you the manual?

I redesigned it slightly to remove the bent like a banana shape & enclosed the engine which now feeds from inlets at the front. The canopy is from a Eurosport. - John.

I have the manual. I receibe the email from Troy and they not make more kit, now only make the ARF version for 699.00$.

I hope find someone that copy the pieces before built it.:D

That hurts.........not sure I want a hot glued wood Jet. I'd prefer to glue it all myself and know it was done right at 150mph. Hopefully TBM rethinks this.

Too late - at this point, the first batch is in a container and on it's way...

I've become the same way - I need to be SURE about how a jet's built. That's why I built my JetLegend Hawk from a kit; I got to de-grease/de-amine the interior of the fuse and sand it myself to ensure all the bulkheads got proper adhesive. I also substituted wood where I saw fit and actually, there weren't too many places at all that needed it. The effort paid off I feel. Any wood kit, I'd end up reinforcing here and there to make the dang thing last more than a season.

I really liked the DV8R and wanted a kit, but I just couldn't warrant a wood kit based on the soft, fast growth balsa wood/lite ply they typically use. You can buy some nice (or at least reasonable) composite kits for nearly the same amount.

Still like the basic planform of the DV8R-looks like a nice pattern plane with lots of wing area. Does this one have a foam or balsa wing?

The first thing I noticed in the pics on the Troybuit models site is how the elevator servos are mounted, sideways to the hinge line. When mounted on the shock absorbing grommets the servos can rock back & forth as the grommets compress. Built in play & elevator flutter. I found this out years ago on a 40 powered model, don't ask me how! [&o]

Looking at the quality of the model posted on the website would you be trusting these guys? - John.

There's enough info there to build one. Pick a proven wing section from your favourite model (I used a Selig section from the Top Flite scale kits), use the basic design methods from the manual & build it from scratch.

You can use the opportunity to fix the bad features in what is a basically a great design (like open areas of framework needing covering in crappy film, exposed servos under the wing to be wiped out in a wheels up landing, anhedral on the tailplane so it bangs on the ground if you over rotate, and, yes, that broken in the middle look!) - John.

You know, from that perspective, I didn't realize how much the drooped nose did look "broken" - always thought the lines were kind of ugly-pretty before... Still like the lay-out and lines mostly.

Wonder if the quality of the wing will be there, unlike the Almost-150 or the early Shok Jet?

The DV8R uses really beefy laminated ply spars front & rear with the undercarriage plates mounted between them. If they use good ply & stick to the design the wing should hold together. If they make a few 'improvements' like some crappy join in the middle so it fits in the box (ARF remember) .................... - John.

I emailed TBM to ask about

what exactly comes with the kit
.possiblity of a kit on the next order
what glue is used
where it was put together (I assumed China)
What hinges are used
Cockpit kit (not available currently)


I've wanted one of these to be my intro to jets since they don't cost alot ($599 kit was cheap! compared to many other planes). Figured I could move to something more scale quickly with this plane.

But I doubt I'd get an ARF version. I've seen chinese work on 35% and 40% IMAC/3-D ARFs that are all wood. Glue joints are usually weak at best and on these planes there is room to go in and fix it before you fly, I doubt that here.


As for the wing I am pretty sure its foam and the center is plywood built up like the original.

Actually, the picture on the website was an old one that was built from a PCM models kit. Its has changed hands several times, I believe...

Boomerang1 The picture of the DV8R that you show is my jet. The plane is FLAWLESS in EVERYTHING it does! The plane performs with the best! Yes it is differet with the bent nose, to me it looks like a SU-27. The ONE thing that is CRUCIAL on this plane is the wing! YOU must balance the wing! This is the number one thing on the plane. It is GREAT at any speed! I had a P80 on mine and it was great! All my servos are hidden inside the plane, very clean!! Robart still sells the retracts for this plane also! hope this helps This is it now, recovered Boomerang, don't take this as a bad remark to you..... Gerry

Good news on the gear.

Saw that in the manual about wing balance.

Maybe if we get 5 or so people pre-ordering he will do kits for us instead of ARFs?

Absolutely no arguments there. Even though mine is modified & smaller it's also a great flyer. Some people have commented it comes in so slowly & quietly they think it has had a flame out. I just hope that the ARF flys as sweetly as the kit & hangs together.

Yours looks much prettier in the new colour scheme, I'm glad you put the stars on & not me. Unfortunately I copied the insructions on the wing servos & mine hang down although I did make covers for them that look a little like weapons pylons. I may hang some ordinance from them in the future![sm=lol.gif]

I just got an email from them and they sadly are only going to sell ARf's. But what I don't understand is that you still need to have a kit to build the plane from even if you only sell the arf version. A good business man would put together a list of people wanting unbuilt kits and sell them to us. Troy built do you here us? We want to spend money but not on an arf.

There were problems on some of the earlier kits with the wing incidence. With that fixed, it is a very nice flying airplane. I've actually got one hanging in my garage (if anyone is interested) and it has some real nice lines from certain angles.
