A-10 flaps really necessary?
1 Attachment(s)
I'm working on a Dean Lassek A-10. I need to keep the plane below 25 kg. (55 LBS) Take off weight, so I'm trying to save all the weight I can. I built the wing in one piece of balsa covered foam.
My question is; How effective/necessary are the flaps in the A-10. There are some MIBO A-10's out there and I'd like to hear of experiences with flaps-up-landings. Anyone? |
RE: A-10 flaps really necessary?
In a cross wind a flaps up landing may often be the best choice to avoid float. Otherwise the flaps are very useful.

That's a Roger on Mike's observation.....also if you have a strong head wind flaps are optional. There is a significant difference in how quickly the hawg slowes down with or without flaps.

Thanks for the replies, guys.;)
ORIGINAL: digitech why dont you build it full spec. then go to germay , get it licenced and you can fly anywhere? If I'm above 25 kg the only possibility I have is to go to Germany and get it licenced, and fly it there. 25 kg is absolute maximum in Denmark. I would really like to fly my A-10 here in Denmark, so I need to get the dry weight below 21 kg in order to have enough fuel. |

Stig have you considered using the large Dubro wheels instead of the heavier jet wheels, and are you using brakes?

RE: A-10 flaps really necessary?
My Lassek A-10 had flaps but I never used them. It flies just fine without them, and I was able to keep mine to 46 lbs (fan powered)
