Jed/Gerry

Here are a few shots of my baby. I ordered a fod screen from Dreamworks in the same order as the propane regulator. I didn't feel like putting a hole in the bottom for the vent so I put it on the side just like TBM did. Will put a bulkhead connector on that tube. I have the tail heater pipe - haven't built the housing for it - may just let it rest in the position shown below.

Gerry, I placed velcro under the tank - that will stop it from sliding back onto the screws...

Jed - got your call - just got home from work - did you like my voice message :D

Let me know what you guys think...

I'll be calling you both...that goes for you too, Juan...

Guys,
Here is the tank install from Jet-Tech. Again it holds 93oz of fuel. I cut up 2" from where the 50oz stops. Fits GREAT!! Gerry Hinshaw

Hello Mr DJ.

One thing I would personally change is the location of your receiver antennas. It is not necessary to run them to the outside of the fuselage. Also, I feel it is better to have one on the left side of the fuselage and the other on the right. This gives a good path between the transmitter antenna and at least one of the receiver antennas regardless of which way the plane is flying. However, I may be a little overly sensitive to this so if you are getting good range checks with yours in all orientations then it is probably OK.

Well heck. I didn't want to have to do any cutting. Will take a close look and see how hard it will be. If nothing needs to be moved I'll seriously consider getting one.

Thanks;

D.W.

Good Lookin' Out, DW...

I really didn't think I needed them outside; Futaba said to have them 90 degrees apart. I'll do a well range check before taxiing around to see what's up if any. Again, thanks...and hello to you to :)

Looking good Mr. DJ. I am sure you are getting excited to get this jet in the air.

Let me know when and where will you make the maiden, I would like to come see how she flies.

Let me know if you ever want to sell that Yellow F-15 :D

Kool Beans, UK

I’m pretty freakin’ excited… Will attempt to fire her up Saturday if my order arrives from Dreamworks… If that all goes well, the next Saturday or Sunday, I’ll trip up to DCRC – Andy Kane’s club so he can check me out and sign off on my waiver… Once I have that puppy, I’m back in Waldorf at my field: CCRC and at my alternate field: PGRC having a ball… Some folks at my field will be upset with me – some people just don’t want you to have while they have not – you know what I’m saying… But many of them like you guys will be excited and excited for me…

Now, real quick on my Sweeeeeeet :) Yellow F-15. Hum, you know, since I ordered FEJ’s Large F-15 Twin, their Large F-18, and will purchase their just announced F-14, my Yellow is for sale. You’ll have to take my SimJet Nexus with it – all new in box. PM me if you’re interested…

Mr DJ

Thanks again to Gerry and Jed for phone guidance although Gerry called me at 10 freakin' 30 at night thinkin' it was 8:30 :D

You have to build the stand for the pipe or it will blow away. Gerry

Gents

I know that a quart of oil to 5 gal can of fuel is the deal, but I just looked at TBM's turbine oil and it said 1 gt per 10 gal of fuel. What up with that?

Mr DJ

seflyer 10-25-2008 08:01 PM

RE: TBM Shock Jet

what turbine are you running? jetcat recommends 5% which is a quart in 5 gallons, artes turbines recommend 2.5% hence the quart in ten gallons.

Kevin

I looked at one of your older posts, with the artes the 2.5% is good.

gjhinshaw 10-25-2008 08:24 PM

RE: TBM Shock Jet

You can run the 1qt. for 5 gal. It will be fine. Most turbine company say 2.5 for 5 gal. But that will work (1qt- 5gal.) A little more oil won't hurt a thing!! Gerry

Mr DJ 10-25-2008 09:53 PM

RE: TBM Shock Jet

Thanks, Kevin and Gerry...

Will go with the little more cushion @ 1 qt to 5 gal...

Jet Central says that for the bigger turbines it doesn't matter if you use 5% oil (1 quart oil to 5 gal kero), but a Bee runs better on 2.5% oil than 5%.

Do any of you who fly off grass or grass/pebble use a fod screen?

Well let me tell you my exciting day at starting my puppy:

- It wouldn’t start after several tries
- Called Gerry – we did this and we did that – no luck – Gerry said call Eric Clap
- Talked to Eric for 60+ minutes:
- ECU wasn’t reading RPMs
- Unplugged the new TBM servo extension and now it was reading but still no start
- Unplugged the new TBM servo extension on the thermo c – still no start
- Re-calibrated radio to ECU which was no change from the way I had it but still no start
- We did this and we did that. Finally Eric had me to unhook the regulator line from the gas valve and just test the pressure at all three settings on the regulator. The exact same low pressure came out at all three settings.
Eric concluded that the regulator was faulty. He said it wasn’t pushing enough pressure into the gas valve.

Talk about being pissed—pissed at the location that I bought it from… first they mailed it late, then it don’t work, other parts were missing from the order, bla, bla, bla. I’m returning everything and shopping elsewhere. I already found another dealer who’s prices are $20 lower on certain items that I bought…

This will delay my test flight by 3 more weeks at least. [:'(]

The inside of my puppy is in disarray since I had to unplug extensions and cut tire wrap and move ECU way the heck under the frame just to reach the actual RPM and Thermo leads.

On top of the above, I just popped the freakin seal on my fire extinguisher just to test that mother since nothing else was working, and that sorry mug blew out nothing but air for 10 freakin seconds and dired. Unfreakin believable… I will be heading right back to that sorry freakin company that I bought it from yelling, rampin’ and raggin. I could see me at my test flight and a fire breakin out with me reachin for my dead a** extinguisher only to have my puppy burn all to hell [:@]

But I'll get her together and press on...

Yes, use a FOD screen. You'll be amazed at what will be stuck to it. When you fly it the first time, you'll pull off the wing and say that's where that went to.:D

Well Guyshad to get one of these for myself. Early birthday!!! Ha. Ha. All I'v read is the same here concerning mine. Awsome sitting in that big box. It came while I was narrating a IMAA mini fest this wek-end and showing my 1/3 scale D-7. Next week-end have to do a show with the show team. MANIt's killing me to get that thing on the table. DJwhat a day you had. Hope you get all that straightened out. Tell Andy C hello from Radio Active Airshows. and me "Roy". YES-It will be my first one in the air. Thanks for all the help you wrote here guys. After looking into the box and looking also at the BIG manual that comes with itHa. What you wrote here was sure good for me. Hope to get mine in the air in a few weeks. If the cold wind don't run me in. Plan to put a strong T-500 in it first and see how it does. I think it will do all I want to do with the Shock. Ha. Ha. Keep-em coming. Hooker53

How many of ya are useing two servos on the Elev???

seflyer 10-30-2008 08:12 PM

RE: TBM Shock Jet

I don't see the need for two elevator servos, the elevator is fairly small and very effective even at extremely slow speeds.
Kevin

I agree. Just one is fine.

Thanks guys. I thought one strong servo would do it but than I saw the provision for two and thought I should ask. I will Be glad when I get this jet to the field. I think it's gonna be a fun first jet.

I am running 5645's on all controls and even they are overkill. I am having great fun flying it, just past 30 flights.
