Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Anyone have some photos showing how to mount an Eagle on a Comp Bobcat? Does the starter motor need to protrude into the rear fuselage?
|
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
I do not have any pictures to hand, however I did see a guy with a Bobcat composite fitted with a AMT Mercury, the starter motor is quite long, he had fitted the turbine with the starter motor inside the fuselage.
It did not appear to cause any problems. Regards, Alistair. |

See post #35 on the following link for a King Cat mount

I've built Bobcat with a 28 lbs thrust turbine (Digitech Ulysses).
I had to make a hole in the fuselage for the starter engine. No problems at all. Just dremel it :D |

Hey Joel, check this out:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7880450 It is a KingCat, but it does look like the beak has been drilled to clear the starter motor. |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Thanks for the links. Guess I'll have to fabricate new mount tabs.
Oh yea, left thumb is disciplined! |

We have a Super Eagle mounted on our Bobcat Arf. We shaped the bottom mounting blocks (BVM) to help tuck the motor in place. I think we have (3) 4-40 washers under the mount to get the correct trim. We routed the hoses to the side and then up through the center of the fairing. We used the glow wires to help hold the fuel lines in place.
We also changed out the center hopper tank for a 30 oz tank for extra capacity. The tank is made by Jet Tech, if you get one, order one with the O-ring fitting (like BVM). We did turn our Super Eagle down to 24 lbs, which flies the plane just perfect, (right at 200...) Hope this helps! Larry & Vern Team Jet Central |

Pics are still worth a thousand words and that's pretty much the way I figured to do it.
Thanks Larry! |

RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
What are you trying to prove? Titan SE baby!!!
|
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
If you really want to go fast why not do it properly with a model designed and equipped for really high speed. Good as the Bobcat is its NOT designed for such use.
Titan SE, really good idea, Samos, but why not a 200 or Olympus ? Regards, David Gladwin. |

BVM shipped them to me !

RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
A Merlin 170 in a Bobcat, are you SERIOUS ?
BVM reps's or indeed anyone else's comments. ? Regards, David Gladwin. |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
I think the assumption that is being made is that whatever motor is being installed will be flown at full throttle for some length of time. I wouldnt believe this to be the case. I think with any motor over 18lbs that full power would only be used for short durations such as takeoff or vertical manuvers.
But put a 12-18 lb motor on a Bobcat and you'll being using full throttle much more aggressively especially with the smaller. Not a favorite combo for me. However I think the new Artes Rabbit and Bobcat will be a blast. IMO Scott |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Well they say that they are doing this to go FAST. Wonder what mods they are doing, if any, for the Bobcat to withstand the potential stress/flutter problems ?
The Composite Bobcat is extemely quick with almost unlimited vertical with just 18 pounds of thrust from a Wren Supersport, so, to be polite, I seriously question the wisdom of installing a 170 in a BC. Again, I ask for BVM rep. comment. Regards, David Gladwin. |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
We know that we are putting the bobcat much further than it has been designed for.
We know what we are doing. If the thing explodes or something we will not blame BVM or anybody else. We use our common sense at all times!! |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
I have flown 50 flights plus with a Titan SE on a Bobcat Composite. It was awesome! Of course I don't need 34 lbs of thrust but it was nice for vertical and getting me out of trouble. It was blistering fast and it can handle the stress just fine. Then again, I DON"T PUSH IT. Flew it at 1/4 throttle and got fast spool up. 3.1 lbs weight you can't beat. The P-120 SE is the best choice for the Bobcat though. 28 lbs is just right.

ORIGINAL: David Gladwin BVM shipped them to me ! DG. How much was model and shipping? Do you want to sell it to me:D Mav[8D] |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Not for sale Mav.
See the BVM website for kit costs and contact them for shipping costs. Its not all that expensive and you can clear it with customs in Sydney or let the shippers clear it for you. If you are at Temora I can discuss further then. Fabulous flying aircraft, needs no more than a Wren Supersport for all the performance you could possibly want. Keeps it light, fuel efficient and extremely quick. Still waiting for BVM reps comments on stuffing grossly oversized engines into this airframe, (and someone might be planning to squeeze a big engine into an Electra, where does it stop ? ) come on guys don't be shy ! Regards, David Gladwin. |
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Why are you so against oversized engines? Most of the time the only limit is the pilot, not the airframe.
|
RE: Super Eagle/Comp Bobcat pics?
Then, clearly, you have not got the faintest idea of the situation ! Where do we draw the line, Olympus or JetCat 200 in a Spark ?
If we continue to go on this way sooner or later there WILL be catastrophe. I am prepared to face the isuue before this happens, afterwards will be too darned late. And don't be too quick to condemn me . Ive spent my working life going fast, very, very fast inc. 1350 mph, Mach 2+, there a time and place and a way to do it. Putting bigger and bigger engines in models not designed for them WILL become catastrophic. Draconian measures will follow. I dont want to see that happen, some of you may not give a damn. I do.
