RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
Hi,
Yes, I agree. I ordered 10 cartridges for my last big project. I love dealing with Todd, but I ended up wasting nearly half of the glue because it wouldn't come out of the tube evenly. Unfortunately, I didn't discover the problem until I had already glued the halves of the gear doors on the big F-18 together. I don't know if he got a bad batch or something, but I thought I would try somewhere else for this one... |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
The issue was most likely the glue tips. If ithe glue does not come out of the mixing tip with a white color the glue is not mixed fully. The short nozzle from BVM work great!

RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
I get mine from fastenal.
I only use the tips when necessary. Mostly just pump out what I need and mix like regular epoxy. waste less glue and tips |

Shauno,
There's a bunch of Fastenal locations in our hometown. Just go to www.fastenal.com and click on locations. They have phone numbers so you can call and see if they're stocked up. That should get it into your hands real quick like. PR |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
What part # are you using at Fastenal ?? They don`t match the Hysol numbers on my tubes.

Shaun,
Did you prime the tube first (initial squeeze out without nozzle installed until both sides even?). We use quite a bit of the 9462 in-house as well and have only had a few bad tubes over the years with the exception of one bad batch about 18 months ago (all cases sent back). At the rate we sell (and use) Hysol, our stock is indeed fresh! Should have called me if you had a problem!! Todd |

Can also try GRAINGER. I have bought single cartridges from them. While looking around I also notice an "AEROSPACE GRADE, NON SAG" epoxy with a considerable higher shear strength. Hysol 9462 and 9460 have a shear strength of 3500 while the 7120HP is 4300. By all means am I glue doctor or anthing just noticed it while surfing grainger..

Try Tam, he always ships the same day US priority mail.
Semper Fi Joe PS Todds procedure on the bleeding of the tube before use, works everytime. |

In this case, I squeezed the subsequent tubes from the gun without the mixing tip on after the first one did what it did. I thought it might have been my gun, so I used a different gun with the same result. I chalked it up to a bad batch. It was the strangest thing, though....as I squeezed the gun, you could actually see one side pushing through, but the other not. If I had been thinking better, I'd have squeezed the uneven volumes into something I could have saved the glue with (for hand-mixing). I use the tips almost exclusively. For me, they're half the point of using this adhesive. Tack stuff in place, then caulk a bead around it and fillet it in with a gloved finger. If it's for a small application where it's not worth losing the glue stuck in the tip (although I freeze the tip and get a day's stay out of it), then I mix it with a stick. |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
Hey Guys.
Don't want to change the subject, but thought I would add this... For those using the short mixing tips, I was told by the local Henkel-Loctite rep up here that they won't mix it well enough for an optimized strength joint. It will work OK, but apparently if you want a full strength joint (to the published spec) use the longer tips or squirt it in a cup and thoroughly mix it by hand. Kelly |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
I use the E20-HP, same bond, if not better and it sets up in 70 minutes or so. Still requires a 24 cure for full strength but working time is significantly lower than 9462. E20-HP is also a bit thicker so it definitely does not sag at all. I haven't used 9462 in I don't know how long.

Gents...
What's the difference in Aeropoxy and Hysol? Which is better? What's the shelf life of Aeropoxy? I have BVM Aeropoxy unopened for nearly 3 years - should I trash it? Thanks... |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
They're are the same thing, different sticker. 9462 commonly has a best before date that spans a few years. If it comes out of the tube with chunks in the resin (the cream colored part), it may be starting to harden on its own. If that's the case its probably best if you squirt it all on a piece of cardboard, mix it up, and chuck it... A solid hunk is probably better for the landfill.

RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
I work for Fastenal here in TN and I buy the Hysol 5 minute epoxy and the 24 hour epoxy along with the tips. There is no difference except in the price between the Hysol and Aeropoxy. My assumption is that BVM has Henkel products (Loctite) private label the cartidges. You can also buy your 4mm and 6mm unions as well as bulk head fittings from us as well. We do not carry "Festo" we carry Legris and Alpha fittings. I have no trouble out of either of these. I will list some part numbers below and you can go to your nearest store and pick these up. Let me clarify...these are not part of our store inventory model but are in our distribution system and are many times one to two days away.
0150484 - 5 minute Hysol 0207288 - Form Release...makes GREAT Smoke oil 0442621 - 6 mm bulkhead fitting 0605217 - Applicator gun for Hysol 442048 - 4 mm union 442013 - 6 mm union I dont have the part number for the 24 hr epoxy but if you tell your representative that you want a Hysol (Loctite) product with the model number you are looking for they can look it up real easy. Same with the long and short nozzles. Seeing as I work for Fastenal I would like to see you buy from us rather than the Grainger guys. Hopefully this helps If you want more information email me at [email protected] Thanks, Brad |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
Brad,
I did just what you speak of at the Frankfort KY branch this past week. I was told that on the Hysol 9462, I would have to buy ten cartridges at about $16.00 bucks each. That is a little steep considering I can order it from Todd at Dreamworks for $12.50. If Todd can sell it for $12.50, his source must be giving him some incredible pricing on large quanties. |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
What you need to do is ask him to stock the case for you at his store and you will buy it as you need it. Ask him if he can work with you on the pricing. Fastenal is a industrial and construction supply company, our pricing model is based on monthly volume and service levels to our customers. I dont want to open a can of worms but just to show a local source for some of the products that you may need. May not always be the cheapest, but if you can save on shipping and it is stocked locally then maybe it make sense for you. Hopefully this helps.
Thanks. |
RE: Fastest/Best Source for Hysol?
Kelly/Brad, thanks...
Brad, what are unions? Are they the short/long mixing tubes? Are you familiura with BVM's epoxy guns? Will your products fit inside the same gun? I don't remember what I paid for this entire package but I'm sure it was high. |
