Refilling propane start bottle
I am relatively new to jets and was wondering what are you guys using to refill the start bottle.I see BVM discontinued the fill valve. I was wondering what other options there are. Thanks in advance.

RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Stuka, Most are starting off board with the Reg. old Coleman propane and after ramp-up, pulling the tube off and go.

Stuka,
Todd at Dreamworks still sells the trigger valve. He also has a newer less expensive version, but I like the trigger valve a little better just for ease of use. Chad |

In case you don't find it. Go to Home Depot or any Barbecue selling parts store, and by one of the valves that go in front
, and place a small adapter. My friend did this and works very well. Just turn the knob on and off. Hector |
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
i just got my propane start setup done. i went to home depot and got one of the bernz-o-matic green propane bottls and the hand held torch on the end of a 4 foot hose. the hose is 3/16" in diameter. So i cut the hose off about 2" from the bottle fitting (which also has a on/off needle valve) and went to the local hardware store and found a 3/16" to 1/8" hose reducer. Then stuck the reducer in the propane hose and a 4mm festo line on the 1/8" end (t was a tight fit, but it went on). works great, cost about $25. but i didn't have to wait a week to get it :)

RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Interesting method........I may have to try that out instead of buying the trigger valve
|
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
KC and I have been preaching that method for years. Never a failed light off that wasn't because of something else. That system is simple and works perfect.

RE: Refilling propane start bottle
my system is similar to that.. but not as clean. i need to find a pipe thread to festo fitting.

For 20 bucks or so, the product that Ed and Kevin sell is the best one I have seen.

If you want to run the same stuff as powermax (propane/butane mix) you can use this valve.
http://www.altecare.com/propvalve2.jpg 15 bucks and you have the low pressure on board gas. The gas is much more available than powermax as well. (MSR/Gigapower/Camping Gaz/etc) |
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Mr Matt,
What bottles will the valve from Altecare rc fit.I looked at my Powermax bottle and it has no threads. Thanks |
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Hello,
The bottles are standard camping fuels (low pressure propane/butane mix), just like Powermax but much easier to find. Anywhere you can find powermax there will be 3-5 brands that use the screw fitting like this one: http://www.msrgear.com/stoves/isopro.asp Available everywhere. Mark has a picture of one in post 13 Regards, |
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Thanks Matt I will go that route. We have a Bass Pro Shops down here and they have it.

RE: Refilling propane start bottle
I took a torch end for a propane bottle, removed the long torch section. It is threaded and red locktited but it will come off with a little heat and effort. JB weld or hysol your threaded festo and you're done. Control the flow with the black knob. If you need more flow, just drill out the check ball on the bottom of the valve.

Causeitflies
Where do you get a valve like that one on the red can???? Thanks Hooker53 |
RE: Refilling propane start bottle
Found it. Altecare. Was so excited to finally see one, didn't read down a bit. Ha. Got one coming. Thanks for posting that Causeitflies. Just hope it fits on the small Bernz-o-matic bottle. That was a big help. Hooker53

OOPS! I looked all over and forgot Altecare was mentioned.
This valve below came with my Wren SS and also fits the threaded cans. It's really nice and has reverse threads on the knob. This type of fuel can doesn't have a clunk so you will have to hold it upside down for liquid or upright/normal for gas starting right off of the can. |

Cause,
This is what I'm using now. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it don't. Plastic. That Wren is a nice one. Hooker53 |
