Just finished making the wing notch on left wing of my DF Arrow. This and under camber leading edge are among very exclusive features of Avro Arrow, fairings are next on list to do....

RE: AVRO ARROW
ORIGINAL: Props4ever ORIGINAL: Mike Emilio - Got to go off-line for a few hours now. Tonight I have to write up the co-ordinates for the negative camber wing. I'll be making notches on my Arrow's wing very soon. A much larger capacity cnc machine will be available for foam cutting. The CNC software needs the coordinates. |
RE: AVRO ARROW
No it is not a Parkinson!!
This one flys faster and better. LOL. This is a scratch built, own design airplane. My Dad and I built it about 6 years ago. It is a box fuse with wings and a vertical tail. The nose and turtle deck is made of fibre glass. It was built as a trainer as it was my first DF model. I would have got rid of it a while ago, but it's an ARROW. I have to keep flying it. It does have alot of damage history though. The Dutch roll is a killer. JetCrazyCanada |

ORIGINAL: SpaceCowboy JETSET ; I believe you can still buy a .90 size ducted fan ARROW kit from Bob Parkinson. Too bad we could not get kits of the AVRO CANADA CF-100 ( First production straight wing jet fighter to break the speed of sound) and the AVRO CANADA JETLINER ( 1949 -Worlds first midrange jetliner and FIRST jetliner to fly in North America; and FIRST to fly airmail by jetliner from Toronto, Ontario ,CANADA TO New York City , New York, USA ) Also the Jetliner was the world's first jetliner to fly a complete curcuit. ( the Comet lifted off and then set down on the same runway) The AVRO CANADA Jetliner eventually resurfaced as the Boing 737 ! |
RE: AVRO ARROW
I know where this CF-100 Plug in ^^ pictures is presently, it could be bought from the fellow as he is not doing anything with it :);)

To all you Avro Arrow buffs.
This is the very first turbine Avro Arrow assembled by Brad Metcalf. It's about 12 feet long and makes that old door it's sitting on look kinda small. It has a P160 in it. RL202 is also taking shape. |
RE: AVRO ARROW
Mike/Brad,
An excellent job!!! Well done!!!! You should be very happy and proud! Dave |

I don't know about 206, , , but I made enough parts for a few anyways, , ,
The first picture leaning against the garage gives a good perspective on how big this thing is. |
RE: AVRO ARROW
Great kit that puppy is huge, perfect size, how hard would it be to go with the scale gear install
Dave |
RE: AVRO ARROW
I think Mike is doing scale gear, not really sure why Brad didn't other than the fact that it would have delayed the build much further.

You got it right Jeremy.
This picture shows my plan for RL202. I'm trying to keep it simple using standard retracts, and still have it look ok. I hope to get these wings sheeted in the next few days, then start on the leading edge and the saw tooth. Dave, , This year is the Canadian Centennial of Flight. A few of us were trying for a shot in the history books for getting the first in the world, turbine Arrow in the air. We were let down big time by one individual that was all talk but did nothing, and cost us about 3 months of lost time. Our target was for a September 2009 flight. Brad Metcalf is one heck-of-a-guy. With almost an impossible short time left, he took the plunge to continue. Doing what ever it takes, he got the first one assembled in a mere 22 days. Simply outstanding, , , , but no time left. That's why the gear is mounted on the fuselage. What-ever it takes, even hand launching! Brad's first wing is basically to prove out alot of the design issues. The second wing I'm working on is a bit more scale. There's still a bit of an issue with the pipe. It's over 3 feet long and needs to be bifurcated. Another great guy gave it a shot at making one but I believe he experienced some problems with his spot welder. We're still scratching our heads how to make this darn pipe. |
RE: AVRO ARROW
So Mike if other folks in the south would like to get a kit what must one do :D
|
RE: AVRO ARROW
In the beginning, I was only making one for Brad. Because the cost are very high for a one-off, I made a few more and Brad sold them for $350.00 each to raise some funds.
I can tell you that it didn't quite cover the costs of 25 gallons of resin, cloth, a huge load of sundry items, and the huge amount of time I put into it. The plan was to scrap the moulds leaving the luck few with a rare collector's item. |
RE: AVRO ARROW
Been getting a few emails.
- Brad's model is about under 30 pounds - The next one will be about 5 pounds lighter because the wings and fin will be constructed a bit different. |

Thanks Mike I appreciate it

RE: AVRO ARROW
Mike,
Brad did awesome job on painting and dressing up his 201, looks fantastic!. Now have to see how it flies as his wing is a "Proof of concept" for this very model from what he told me few nights ago. Looks like due to pipe issue there won't be any maiden flight for this model in last few days remaining in 2009!. Dave, Not to worry as i'm also in line for a kit myself if Mike ever decided to more of these Arrows, even i have original grand father DF version but i still would like to have lighter turbine version kit also. Great job on building your wings Mike!, can't wait till you do fin drawings so i can do my fin also. My DF Arrow will wear in-term 204 livery with Day-glo on rudder only!... Sam |
RE: AVRO ARROW
Mike,
As I told Brad on the phone a few months back, Call Tam, give him the dimensions you need and the engine you're using, the pipe won't be cheap, but it will be worth it, bifurcated pipes are not easy to make. If it was me, a $400 or so pipe is well worth the insurance on this airplane. |

If it was me, a $400 or so pipe is well worth the insurance on this airplane. Brad has truly put his heart into this trying what ever it takes. I told him I'd help him out with 50% of the price to get a proper pipe made for him. I think sometime in the new year, he might want the fuselage put back in the mould, and have those big cut-out from the main gear closed up again. It looks like we failed on being a part of Canadian history with the Centennial of Flight ending Dec 2009. We only needed a measly few more weeks to work out the pipe issues. If only we had one more dependable guy helping out with the retracts and pipe, we would have had it done back in Sep 2009. The next Centennial is 100 years from now, , year 2110. Well try again!!:D |

Avro Arrow RL206 is ready for it's maiden flight!!! All ready for tomorrow's maiden flight at my fun fly. Powered by Jet Screamer motor and APC 5x4.5 pusher prop, should be stinking FASTTT!!!! We'll update all after maiden flight tomorrow with more inflight pictures. It's painted in proposed production Camo "Voodoo" scheme. Happy new Year to all on here, Sam Due to windy and snowy weather conditions today, i didn't do maiden flight of my lil RL 206. We'll do it soon when it's more promises weather conditions to do so. Sam |
RE: AVRO ARROW
We had beautiful weather for our new year's fun-fly, and Tony, our safety officer, reported good flying weather on Thursday the 31st as well.
You should have brought it to our fun-fly, there were about ten electric planes flying. |
