rk212, the "Midwest Aero Stand" is what is pictured for $95. Tower Hobbies has them for $99.99. The Tower web site indicates that they are currently on order. Looks like the Midwest site wants $140 for them. I've had one for several years but had to make a pair of adapters to use it for my F-22. Single engine type fuselages fit fine in the stock version.

Didn't think about that. I have one down in the basement.

Anyway... I see a lot of "Fender" stands at the events. (like in post #2) They are relatively cheap from an auto paint supply house... or you can get them at Harbor Freight.

Agree with Dave on this, Byron is great & doesn't mark the paint.

Byron one is okay for smaller jets. I made the one that I use now but you just cant make them for any less than the one from Harbor Freight.

I also really like the 'working height' of these - even with Byron stands you need to kneel down

As this thread is over four years old, there has been a slight price increase.

Item out of stock!

I like the Harbor Freight one well enough to get it tomorrow.

I have had the midwest stand for about 15 yrs I like the adjustability for large war birds. it still looks new after all the use its been through.

We made ours by welding a J & L power products upper stand to a go kart/engine stand I picked up for around $40.00. It allows me the adjustability of the upper portion and the weight carrying/stability of the Go kart/engine stand. The stand beforehand couldn't support much more than a pattern plane as it was just a single small pedestal. This is really a nice set up

I make my own using insulating foam taking care that the fuselage sits level in the cradle for alignment purposes. After which it is used to store the plane and for transport in the car as I put some scrap bits of Velcro on the bottom to stop it moving around. Total cost? 3-4 bucks.

In the past I have used those foam ice chests cut down for the fuselage. I found that if you taped (duct tape to the rescue - Duck Dynasty not withstanding) the cut edges it held up pretty well.

Except that my (then) trailer had springs for suspension and that simply beat the hell out of everything. It has been replaced with a nicer bigger enclosed cargo trailer with a torsion bar axel, but now I am getting fancier.

Todd, that looks pretty clever and nicely made!

sysiek 11-18-2013 04:05 PM

Try this with 4 5 - 50 lbs jet .

757Driver 11-18-2013 07:53 PM

Build my own for $40 and one nights work with wood and screws from Lowes. The advantage being that you can build the stand to support the airplane under its strong points (bulkheads).

lov2flyrc 11-19-2013 07:21 AM

We will be producing our own stands, two sizes. Standard size will be for airframes up to 50lbs, The "large" will accommodate aircraft up to 95lbs. Fully adjustable and folds for storage.

Thruster 11-19-2013 12:14 PM

Any chance of getting any to the UK?

vinnyjet 11-19-2013 12:26 PM

Can't beat the Harbor Freight fender stands. With the 25% off coupons which are in every magazine I read, they are like $15.00 and have a 200 lb limit. I have one in the trailer and two more in the shop just to be able to move planes around.
