Not to muddy the waters, but I don't trust Y extensions in jets and will do anything to avoid them. I lost a beautiful B-25 to a Y connector that went badand have had numerous problems with Y connectors in airplanes over the years (always caught, fortunately, by checking the control surfaces before every flight). Given a choice between a Y and using separate receiver channels, I'll do the latter every time. If your receiver lacks enough channels, then a Matchbox is the way to go.

On the newer Futaba radios (don't know about JR, someone can chime in...), channels are grouped into small blocks of channels .. and within a block they update simultaneously, so that the delays occur between blocks, but within a block (of several channels) they all update together. It is good practice to put "related"channels together in groups, like ailerons, flaps, elevators, dual rudders, etc. All documented nicely in the manual.

Ah, that's one of the keys too, I think - don't use a mix, use the "hardware" assignment to assign both channels to the same function (and stick), and use two channels in the same update "group." I wan't sure if the "grouping" of the channels was in the manual, but I know I've read about it here on RCU. Anyone remeber what the groups are or where it is in the manual? I haven't had time to look it up recently.

Wait, In order to group, the two channels must belong to the same block? I had elevator on channels 1 and 9 I believe. 1-8 are all in use.. Can you group channels 1 and 9 together?

Seems like we're making this harder than it should be. In the 12FG don't you simply tell the radio what type of tail you have (dual elevator)and it tells you what channels to plug the elevator servos into?

That's it.

George, thanks for the info.

Chris, yes, that's how you *should* do it from the start.

Pete, you can group channels 1 and 9 together, but you shouldn't do it that way. As the manual section George posted said, the channels are updated in groups and thus, for *maximum perfomance* and no lag, you should use channels in the same update group to "group" together in the radio for combined functions like two elevator halves. It should be a simple matter to swap two channels in the RX connections so that the 2 elevators are in the same update group. It might be a hassel to redo it this time, but then you'll know how it works and it will allow you to get the most from your radio - which really has awesome features, BTW.

If commanded to move do all the servos in one group start simultaenously? If so that increases the demand on the battery for that instant vs the old sequence system where there was approx 1.5ms delay between each servo start.
