ORIGINAL: Gary Jefferson

Harry, I posted the paint numbers into the first post to keep the information consolidated.
If everything goes as planned I will. :D I'm ready to have something I can call my own at the meets.

Could this be done in individual panels? I know that you would have to tape some panels, silver them, then light clear them, let cure, then move on. Do you think this would add some panel variation or just look like crap. I realize this would add some serious time to the painting, but wonder what it would like.
Jeff

Jeff, I have not experimented with the panel effects since I am doing a polished finish. I think using different base coats (primer colors) on different panels may give lighter and darker panels but I am not sure if the metallic paint it too opaque for this to work or not. I am going to try this today and I will let you know the results.

Gary, very cool. I tried the HOK stuff - not easy to do and pretty pricey.

Regarding application of the silver, you say that you cannot come back to an area that has already been sprayed. When spraying a long fuse, does the last lengthwise pass blend OK with the first lengthwise pass as you work your way around the fuse to your original starting point?

All you need to do is start on the bottom of the fuselage and work your way back around to the bottom from the other side. Spray the metallic right up to the metallic already sprayed and try not to overlap the paint. It will blend nicely and if it is not perfect then it is on the bottom of the plane.

Thanks for taking the time to post this.

My question is how do you sand the base down so fine and not erase the surface detail I see in your pictures?

Thanks,

Gary
What automative clear and thinner are you using (brand and number?)
Also would you weather/ dirty panels at the decal stage?
Thanks

Gary,

I do think I am going to do some tests using your method over dark blue paint like used in the Grummania thread.
