That's some damn nice work.. I'm ALWAYS impressed by someone who takes the time to build these days.. You read the forums around here and you see people calling assembly of ARF's as build threads..

looks like a great candidate for edf conversion, to me.

You can't get flamed for building like that!
Way too impressive.

Do you have any build pics?

Here are a few more build pics. Made the ejection seat handels out of 4-40 rod and just bent it to shape. Cockpit pics are pics of an F-4 cockpit and shrunk down on the computer and printed then cut out and glued to the tray. I hand made the seats with 9mm depron foam.

Here are three you tube videos back when I was finishing up the retracts. Also burner lights and hook operation. I still had the 6mm depron tail fethers for show..didn't have the foam cores sheeted yet.

And a few more build pics. I made the HUD out of a plasitc magnet case and grinded it down flat. I will line the gear bays with photos of an actual F-4 gear bay. Ahh the pic of the box with the foam cores ariving in the mail..I sent the patterns to foamfatory.com and he cut the cores for me. Canopy is from a BVM F-4, I hand made the tray.

Going with an odd paint scheem on this one. A german Red Baron scheem celabrating 50 years of "Pabulous Phantoms" I sent a bunch of picturs to Callie graphics and she made up some vinal graphics for me..looks like she did great job on them. The pics of the graphics of course still have the paper cover on them but it is see through enough to kind of see the graphic under it.

Hi, your Phantom II is awesome. Nice work indeed.
One thing that has me curious thou. How did you prove that a 12x6 at 14K rpm makes 13lbs thrust?

Thanks.

I havn't proved it yet. Scorpion calc is a motor/prop calculator that gives an estimate of performance, it comes out to 13 pounds thrust.

RE: Scratch built F-4 (VIDEO)

Thanks. I'll check it out. What motor did you go with, ESC, # lipos?

falcon5 02-13-2010 11:42 PM

RE: Scratch built F-4 (VIDEO)

Motor is a Scorpion 4020-12 that will be running on 8s 5000mah batts useing a CC ICE 100 ESC.

RE: Scratch built F-4 (VIDEO)

I have to admit that Im very interested to see how much thrust your setup will make. I have an OS 91 powered propjet that weighs about 13 lbs wet. The OS with tuned muffler I think makes about 9.5 lbs thrust at best.

If your setup can do what the Calc v3.33 suggest Id seriously consider changing to an electric setup.

Did you notice on the calc that the APC 12x6 E and the 12x6 EP (pusher I think) vary by almost 2 lbs thrust? E about 13. EP about 11 lbs.

Cheers.

This is one impressive project. Tonopah is not exactly a modeler's or even an aerospace hotspot - other than TTR and all the Sandia folks that run it - I suspect you pretty much had to go this project completely solo. [8D]
