Originally posted by pauls Microjets i've never heard of 'tams pipe' over here in the UK and never knew it was so thin, i believe i did ask for an explanation somewhere in thishorrid mess of a thread, i'm outa here. His product offering is impeccable, and he is very honest and hard working. BTW Tam I am going to be needing a Super Bandit pipe soon so don't screw me or I am editing this post!! (just kidding) The thing that would be cool would be a thrust reverser for the Hotspot/Roo/BobCat/Kingcats etc.........Tam? |

Originally posted by pauls Microjets Tam, just checked out your site, nice pipes, but sorry to critize your site, theres a few too many photos on the main page and it took a while before the site was finished loading, maybe you could try making the images a little smaller. i'm surprised you've never heard of my site, if you were to search for 'KJ66' on google.com you'll find my site imediatlely and i've check most of the other popular ones and it's the same there too. nice pipes, i made one for my yellow aircraft F18 with my home build spot welder, hard work but it's not too bad. the rookie looks good too. I just went to your site. I like the photos of the engine throwing flame. I could do that to all my plane with smoke system. It awesome for airshow. Other than that . It have no benifit to thrust increase. Since we are in the U.S. We got to protect ourself from loosing AMA coverage. So I never built the pipe for afterburner use. Tam |

All of this because someone is trying new things in his garage/shop???
Come to my shop, and you will want to burn me at the stake for sure. |
Yeah

lol matt, ur so right about these guys. excuse me while i go play with matches
|
I wanted to thank you
for all the good irea's and support of " the idea " . I got ahold of a single wall peice of 80 thousandths SS pipe from a welder friend of mine, and installed my little " flame ring " . It took about 15 seconds of gas, being pumped at 45 psi, out of 22 holes. It got hot as hell, discolored the pipe, and made me feel like heading for the hills. Tams bifurcated I only let go for 5 seconds max and it began to stink. I have a long way to go.

Anybody read Jetpower 2-2003 page14, [Starfighter F-104 G]
You just might learn something. You guys who ***** the most will probably be the first to install a afterburner, it should be old news by now. bye |

Tam i'll quote what description i put regarding these photos of my homebuilt KJ66 throwing flames out the back the quotation is taken from this page http://www.microjets.co.uk/kjphotos.html which shows photos of my KJ66 after being lit with gas . 'some video stills taken at the very moment that the gas has lit, these may look bad but the flame is only there for a millisecond.' your go! LOL |

Originally posted by migdriver I got ahold of a single wall peice of 80 thousandths SS pipe from a welder friend of mine If that pipe was 3.5 inch OD and about 24 inches long it would weigh a bit over 6 pounds. Is my math close? |
Afterburner question
yes, within .1 pound
(stainless weighs approx .29 pounds/cubic inch) AJC |
Yup
it was a heavy peice of metal, too heavy for a plane, but overkill is cool in my book at this point in time. Played around a little more tonight, increase pressure from 45 to 60 PSI, got a finer mist, and it seemed to work better without all the stink. Now I work my way back down in pipe thickness.

Terry,
You need to make friends with someone that can get you some inconel sheet stock... AJC |
Is that
the stuff thy use on Real jet AB's. ???
|
Afterburner question
Dont know, but many turbine burners and sticks (and some tail nozzles) are made from inconel alloy. Its a very tough heat resistant alloy (also very pricey) much more so than stainless.
its the alloy they cast the turbine wheels from also. AJC |
Matt and Table saw Blade
Matt ,
Why would you do such a thing ? Black and decker frowns on this sort of activity. Why would you risk a OSHA safety rating and ruin the homebuilders sport with such a irresponsible action? (Disclaimer: This may be acceptable in home garages and foreign countrys where Osha has no true authority. All names like Matt who we will now refer to as Jon Smith will be changed to protect the guilty.) LOL !!! Just kidding Guys :) |

Tam, this part
I just went to your site. I like the photos of the engine throwing flame. I could do that to all my plane with smoke system. It awesome for airshow. Other than that . It have no benifit to thrust increase. Since we are in the U.S. We got to protect ourself from loosing AMA coverage. So I never built the pipe for afterburner use. the part where you was theres no benifit to thrust, there will not be a benifit for thrust as those photos are video stills taken from the point of gas ignition |
Afterburner question
Originally posted by pauls Microjets what extra thrust are you getting when you push the button? here in the UK we don't have chicken ****** rules that tells we shouldn't use reheat on models, this is of course if i read it right, although not knowing what a tams pipe is will probably prove me wrong, what is a tams pipe? if it's quite thin then expect it to melt or collapse like Mr_matt said in which case i agree with the others that your crazy in trying, if you are going to try this at least make the pipe thick enough. try measuring the engine dry at max thrust and then push the button and measure it again. i personally like the idea of a nice flame out the back, HEY if full size do it why the heck shouldn't us modelling boys and girls do it. good work paul! nice comments |
Afterburner question
Hell lets push the envelope, I want to see jets glow red there going so fast in full reheat,
Mike Yeah I'm just that crazy, Mach 1 (ish) Here I come ;) |
