So many people have given great tips so many thanks to all those who voted & especially those who helped me tidy up on my preparation list.

As for what I am going to do.  I have decided that at my age i do  not get so excited by my own presents anymore & what really makes Christmas is been around my family especial watching the younger ones enjoy their gifts. This said I will continue to talk my GF around in the interest of my 8 year old nephew who will be wanting to go for a spin on Christmas day

I voted that you wait until CHRISTMAS to open it, I know your pumped but imagine going to bed Christmas Eve (like you did when you were a kid) and being so freaking excited to wake up to the present you've been wanting so bad. It'll be worth it, trust me! Props to the GF, she sounds pretty awesome to buy you a RC Monster truck!

Went out and purchased a second hand Savage x 4.6 for my nephew on Saturday seen it running so it works, however i managed to pull the pull start too much and it won't roll back up. I think i might have flooded the engine   got to fix it before his Birthday on the 6th of Jan. Learning curve is going to be steep on this hobby I think

I have spare pull  start that came with it. I might fix the broken one and fit one  it to my new savage, is the pull start better than a rotostart? What would else would i need I think i need a back plate and a one way bearing is this correct ?

I'm pretty sure all you need is the rotostart, which would be great for a beginner. You can use the roto-starter while plugging the exhaust for a foolproof priming. Just watch the fuel in the lineand plug the exhaust one second at a time until it starts to fire up. There are other ways to prime the engine but that's probably the best for a beginner.

Junk that pull cord crap and get a roto start, it will make life easier in the end. Just my opinion from experience, i tended to pull to hard and I brokea lot of stuff with gorilla strength.....
