Hey guys.
My first 2 speed, a little help please.....
Went out to run my mammoth today(a break in the weather).
Gased it up... put the body on... fired up up...and noticed it was idleing irratically (thought to myself thats weird).
Gently gave it throttle....engine revved up nice...no go.
So I took the body off. I looked it over and noticed that the smaller spur (inner) spun freely. while the outer did not. I ran my finger over the outer spur pressing down while spinning it and the truck moved forward.
A little puzzled......[&o]
Any help would be appreaciated !! Thank you !

Well, im sure Binary Terror could help you with this, he has a mammoth too. However, i'll point some things out for ya. You stated its a 2 speed. Your smaller spur at idle will probably spin freely, because that would be your 2nd gear spur. Which shouldnt engage until the mechanism reaches a certain RPM, then engages the clutch. Usually a pin style 2 speed. Now, as for the truck not moving when you give it gas, that cant be too hard to pin point. After all, there really isnt a transmission on that truck. When you hit the gas, does the power get to the clutch bell on the engine? If so, then move on to the 2 speed. Is the spur spinning when you give it gas? If so move on to the next obvious area, the diffs. Make sure your output cups still have set crews, or set pins still in them. Sorry i cant help more, i dont own a mammy.

Actually though, you said you spun the outer spur, which is your first gear, and it moved? Then its gotta be in your clutch bell. If its not broken clutch shoes, then possibly a loose flywheel. But the problem has to be there if you can spin the first speed spur, and the truck moves.

Thermal....thanks for the reply....
I was thinkin clutch shoes as well. Just wasnt sure about the two speed, and how that would affect it .
Yea when I hit the gas the bell moves pretty well. the spurs are movin not quite as fast tho.......

OK....
I took the engine off (for easier access to the bell). pulled of the bell and the clutch shoe's look fine. real smooth, possibly glazed. I took the truck and tried to roll it on the floor(with no engine on it). it did not want to move freely. Took some effort to push. I'm thinkin it's in the tranny.
This sucks! not even 1/2 gallon thru it yet[&o]
