I just put a brand new pull start on my hyper .21 last night only to find that the turbine that the one way bearing rides inside of was cracked and would not engage to start my truck. I have a Monster Pirate by the way. I just got the truck used and the original pull start was broken.....Any ways the problem that I have is when I went to remove the pull start assembly to diagnose the bearing trouble the pull start shaft stayed inserted in the motor and the spring pop-ed out of the pull start causing a very big mess. Is there a way to keep this from happening again? For you people out there that have re-wound a pull start spring you guys know that this can be a pain in the butt. I think it took me a good 5 hours to re-wind. Is there some way to put a retainer on this to keep this problem from occurring again. Any help would be great.
Thanks

my advice about rebuilding an OFNA pull start, is its impossible, they make it so that when it pops out like that, you have to replace it. AE pull starts are so simple to rebuild.
heres how it goes
case
spring
spindle
and there should be a retainer wall right here that has a little screw in it.

Yeah I hear you on the rebuilding part, but I was able to rebuild it. Are you saying that there should be a retainer ring on my pull start if so I was sold an incomplete pull start assembly because there was no retainer ring on my pull start. There is nothing to keep the spindle that has the rope on it from pulling right out.
Thanks

No.....I just got this truck and am in the process of getting it going. I just bought the pull start for $24.00 and had it come apart on me. I was trying to get in the MT scene and found this Monster Pirate for $130 with a broken starter and thought this might be the way to go right now. This close to Christmas I could not afford around $400 buck for a new truck.\
Thanks

I bought the pull start on ebay. I have contacted the person but no response yet. I have a hot bodies electric start on my RS4 but I could not find a back plate for the OFNA Hyper .21 engine. I was going to try and buy one and modify it to fit the hyper but that seems like you could just throw your money away if you made one little mistake on the mod.
Thanks again
