MGT .21-how hot is too hot.
I have just gotten mgt and have run 6 tanks of fuel thru it, running 190-220 degrees. I am now trying to fine tune it . This is my first truck but have been flying glow for 15 years, tunings the same but also different than airplanes. Do I need to cut a hole in the wind shield for more cooling as the temp got to 251 degrees. But it was still running good and had good smoke comming out . I then richened it up a little and the temp dropped, but it ran not quite as well.

it depends on the temperature of the air!! if it is a cold day, the enging may run cooler, about 190 - 200 deg, if it is hot out, the engine may be fine at 250(dont run at anything higher than 260-270 DANGER!!!),however , extreme changes in temp can ruin a piston in sleeve. If you break it in in cold temps, it may be no good to run in hotter temps due to the metals expanding, but it may still run perfectly in cold weather. Also, It never hurts to have plenty of air flow to your engine.
A good rule of thumb is to lean out the motor until max performance is reached and then richen it up a couple of clicks (i'm sure you've heard all this before as you have much experience as you have been into planes for quite some time)

to answer the origional posters question anything below 270 (with a nice healthy trail of smoke) is absolutely fine for the TT .21 pro (the engine used in the mgt)

Thanx for the info. just don't want to fry an engine, the temp was in the low fifties yesterday, much cooler today and foggy. Will probably lean it out alittle next time I run it. Tuning seems a little more trial and error than airplanes, but having a blast running this thing.

you DO NOT lean your engine out in cold weather, you need to richen your needles in cold weather as the engine will run hotter. due to the fact cold air is more dense than warm air more oxygen will enter the combustion chamber causing a lean mixture,
