Default planning on buying a truck

I need some advice from all you monster truck guys.

I love my touring car, but I hate when it breaks down and have nothing to drive.
I'm planning on getting a Savage or Revo for the downtime.
Basically I want something to bash, do wheelies, jump curbs.

I just want to have fun, while my 1/10 touring car is out.
I bash the parking lots, and I have fun doing it.

I've narrowed my search down to the Savage, or Revo.
I lean towards the Savage for durability/parts available, and the Revo for racing (but able to bash, if needed).

My question is would you buy used or buy new?

I bought my RS4-3 used and hopped it up big time with a OS .18 CV-RX engine in it.
I think I spent my money well, got a hopped up RS4-3 for less than a new RS4-3 evo.
I'm wondering if a monster truck would be the same.
Buy it used.. Save money... Upgrade parts here and there.. BAM, you got a sick truck without
paying for the new price.

What would be the ideal price be for a used Savage to upgrade?
I let a used $250 Savage deal slip by me..
I'm still kicking myself in the ass for not getting it.

Should I just get a Savage 4.6 kit and get it over with?

Hmmm.
decisions suck!
Anybody got a used Savage for sale? ( I don't care if it's a roller or not )
I can always throw a engine in it.

THanks,
wdawg

And besides, think about what you're buying that's used. Now think of HOW it was used. You know these trucks get beaten to pieces, so if you get a used truck, there's no real telling if it'll just need a piece here or there or if the whole truck is just short of falling to pieces.

thanks guys...

I think I'll just stick with the 4.6
I already have a Airtronics MX3 so I'm set with the TX.
I just need to get an extra RX.

I noticed that nobody commented on the Revo or TMaxx.
Do you guys not like stuff from Traxxas?

Is there any perticular reason why you narrowed your choices to the Revo and Savage? I am brand new to all this, and from what I have read so far, I'd think the Losi LST would be a better choice then either one of those. And the Savage would without a doubt be the choice from your very short list.

When I get my first R/C, it will most likely be the LST. But things can change pretty fast in this hobby. And new truck, or updates to an existing one, and I may get something different.

the reason I narrowed my search down to the Savage and Revo is because
my LHS carries the parts for both cars. From what I know of they dont have that
many LOSI parts.

Also, I'd like to say... that even if I bought used I would take the whole truck apart...
I would never drive a car without knowing how it works or cleaning it.
I hate dirty RC trucks/cars.

I believe in supporting my LHS and also I hate ordering things online.
I want to be able to walk into my LHS to get a part if my car/truck is broken.

1 of the reasons why I bought a RS4-3 instead of a NTC3.

Default RE: planning on buying a truck

why the LST?

Is it a better truck? What's more durable? I'm looking for something
that doesn't break like my touring car. Tired of ending my day early
cause my OS .18 killed my touring car. I need something reliable and
won't break. From what I heard off-road is the way to go.. .If I want something
that doesn't break.

Do you recommend the LST to be different?
And not have a truck that everybody else has?

I'm not into the whole "I gotta be different from other people thingy".
I could care less if tons of peeps have the savage in my area.

I saw a MGT today.. DayUMMM that thing is huge!
who makes the MGT?

Woud the MGT be a better buy than the 4.6 savage?

Well, if the parts availability is like you said it is, from my research when I was looking for a truck, I'd take the Savage over the Traxxas stuff. The only reason being is the same reason the hobby shop guy gave me. He told me that he sold a lot less replacement parts for HPI than for Traxxas. Yea, I ended up with a Mad Force, which requires me to order any spare parts, but that was the truck I wanted.

From what I have learned so far, yes the LOSI LST is a much better truck then anything else, but you pay for it. If the local hobby shop don't carry it, or the parts for it, then it makes a more difficult decission to buy it. It is pretty much the same size as the Monster GT, which is made by Team Associated.

Buying something as prone to breakage as these monster trucks are, I would not buy used on the net. If you find something you like locally, that should be safe, just not from someone that maybe 3,000 miles away.

The LOSI LST monster truck uses shocks that use as much oil per shock as most others use in 3-4 shocks. They are huge, and very nice. It uses an Mach .26 engine with 2.9 hp, revs to 35,000 rpm has 7" tires, has a large 171cc fuel cell, uses the best radio of any monster truck, maybe the best of any radio control truck, uses two steering servoes, has about 4" of ground clearance, has nearly 4" of suspension travel, top speed of 44 mph is super fast for a truck that size in my option.
You may be surprised to find a near by town with a good local hobby shop that sales the LOSI line. I found two LHS`s within 40 miles of my boonies location that carry LOSI. One carries LOSI Traxxas, Team Associated, Kyosho, HPI, and a couple others, and it is the smaller of the two. The other one carries tons of parts, claims to have over 40,000 parts, and acess to total of over 60,000. May be I am lucky considering I live in the boonies.

It seems like the happy Traxxas T-Maxx owners are few and far between. It is very popular due to advertising I guess! I don't have an rc, well not a real one, I do have a rc, but it is remote control toy from radio shack. I am reading as much as I can and taking it all in so I can make an educated purchase the first time. From what I think I've learned so far, the LST then Monster GT are the two to pick from. They are the most pricey of the popular ones. The LST can be had new for under $550 several places, but from what I understand, LOSI will not allow a lower price then $599 listed to the open public. I have found $520, and $541 at the local hobby shops, but I had to ask what their lowest price was.

Regardless what you buy, just have fun and stay young.

I agree, dont buy a used truck, ever. With a used truck you are likely to find problems with it and have to spend the price of a new one to fix it. Always go for hop-ups with a new truck, but dont buy a used one
