Default new mt2 engine

I was wondering what kind of engine i could drop directly into my cen mt2 with little or no modding. I want it to be pretty powerful. Also, does anyone know where I can find the nt-16 to nt-18 mod?

Ok thank you. Would it be worth getting that engine or should I just get the nt-16 to .18 upgrade for about $40?

whats wrong with the stock motor?..... You'll get about the same power with the cen 18... the conversion will give a bit more torque, no more speed... The os motor is a good choice but a little expensive... If you upgrade the engine, make sure to upgrade the diff cups... I changed to the .18 conversion... snapps diff cups without mods and dogbones in rear all the time... The truck is already at it maxx speed without seriously altering the chassis...

Yes I do want the extra torque, not too much the speed. And yes, I do have the diff cup mod. If I got the .18 mod for the nt-16, would I have to re break in the engine?

I just finished installing and breaking in the [link=http://www.osengines.com/engines/osmg2104.html]OS .18 CV-RX[/link] engine into my MT2. It sounds better than the .16 Cen engine (less high-pitched) and the truck is significantly faster with it. The engine bolts right in. I had to rotate the carb slightly, and bend the Cen header out slightly. I flipped my servo around and mounted the throttle linkage underneath for more space, but you probably wouldn't need to do that with the stock running gear.

Many thanks to Poor Judgment for answering my questions about this engine swap.

Hope that helps,

Ken

well the cen .18 conversion is cheaper but OS makes some damn good engines. they have alot more credibility behind thier engines than cen. i am a cen fan bu when i comes to engines, go with the known quantity. besides, that blue cooling head looks so cool!

The os .18 only has 1.35 hp tho. how much does the cen nt-16 have? Also, would I get the longer shaft or the shorter one?

The Cen .16 only has 1hp, if memory serves, so the OS .18 represents a 35% increase in power over the stock motor. I'm not sure what the .18 conversion for the .16 is worth, but I'd be surprised if you saw a 35% increase.

The motor I linked you in my other post is the EXACT one needed, out of the 4 or so flavors that are available from OS. Tower Hobbies has them @ $99 each.

the nt-16 has 1.2 hp not 1.0 hp... thats not a huge difference but the os will rev higher and thus have a higher top speed.. I have seen both engines running in the mt2 and the difference isn't huge... I spent my money on the .18 conversion for alot less money than the os... its not faster, but more off the line power...
the biggest selling feature of the os is the carb... this engine is super easy to tune and it holds it well... The cen isn't bad, but it has to be tweaked occasionally....

New Era Models www.neweramdoels.com has a .21 conversion kit for the MT2 if you want a .21-.28 engine in there.

The NT-18 will provide more bottem end torque than NT-16 but top speed wise, you will only see little gain. I personally have a DIY MT2 with our "lighting" Big BLock NX-15 in there. 1.5HP @ 33000 RPM. Take me some time to get it in there but the outcome is well worth it. Definitely cheaper than a .21 conversion.
