RE: Revo vs Savage
Hi guys been looking at buying a MT for bashing as its not wise to bash with my marder as you know its a bit big I was looking at Savage and all different models and also Revo.Well as always I do extensive research and ask questions and I came up with for my needs the Savage 25.I really liked the look of Revo and new technology but when reading about it I noticed lots of changes needed as soon as you get it out of box to be reliable.I know savage has been around for a while and afterall I dont want to race it I want to as you call bash with it and Revo is more for racing.Well hope I made right choice and do I need a battery for starter or does it come with Savage 25

Dubcast, Cadillac is very anti-Traxxas. That's why he said it. I'm not saying he's right or wrong, just to each his own. Cadillac, have you had bad experiences with Traxxas products?

RE: Revo vs Savage
I'd choose the Revo for several reasons.
1. They are about the same toughness
2. The Revo is far easier to work on. The Savage is a PITA to work on.
3. The Revo is as good at racing as it is at bashing. The Savage can only bash.
4. The spur gear is prone to stripping on the Savage if the mesh isn't perfect.
Those are some of the reasons I would choose the Revo over the savage. BTW, I do own a Savage.

RE: Revo vs Savage
If you plan on upgrading in the future, get a revo. If you want to keep it stock, go with a savage 4.6. Bottom line, is they are both good trucks. For bashing a revo pretty much all you have to do is stiffen the shocks and if you plan on running an aftermarket engine then get an FOC. Other than that the revo is a really strong truck. The savage is a little stronger, but it's going to be a lot slower, especially with the .25 engine. If you get a 4.6ss, then it will be a little faster than the revo. But that is in a straight line. The savage handles like a brick both on the ground and in the air. The revo handles like a truggy, is very nimble, and controllable in the air. Also the savage suspension is basically designed to take huge jumps, but the revo soaks up the bumps and doesn't bounce around as much as the savage. If you go with the savage definatly get the 4.6ss. And for any of you who think I don't know what I'm talking about, I do because I have both and I bash them hard. I've had less breakages with the savage, and the engine is easier to tune than the TRX 2.5. BUT the revo is much easier to work on, is very capable of racing out of the box, and has a ton of aftermarket support. If you go with a revo, you have the option of getting a big block engine. If you have a BB revo, you will blow any savage out of the water. With the savage the biggest engine you could go with would be a .32. With a revo you could go with the same sized engine as any savage, doubling the displacement of the stock engine, and have literally an unlimited amount of power on hand.

I think the reverse is a weak link in the tranny. And, you cannot use reverse for racing anyway. If you are only bashing and not racing, I would keep it. But, that's just my opinion.

RE: Revo vs Savage
FOC reduces rolling resistance, which makes the truck have even better acceleration, and maybe higher top speed. The reverse gears on the revo are also weaker, making it ideal just to comvert to FOC when they are dead.

rolling resistance lies ENTIRELY in the tires.

And if anyone is wondering, I don't own either a Revo or a Savage. However, I do own a modified T-Maxx. Would I purchase another? Probably not, but it was fun breaking it prior to turning it into a shelf queen with various Corvette C5-R bodies. Of course, there are photos in MyModels and in my RCU Gallery.

I believe the Savage is a better basher, and I respect it more than the Revo. I'd go with the Savage. However, I have not owned either, I just know what I've read.

RE: Revo vs Savage
mayhem, u have no idea what ur talking bout. The savage CAN be raced with more hop-ups than a revo would need. Every1 likes to say that the savage is a all bash truck. Just look at John Schultz savage in the march issue of XRC. Ill bet you it would be very competetive with revos

The way I see it, to each their own since they have to live with their own choice.
