Default Engine trouble...I think.

I just rescently broke in my TNX using heat cycling. Just today I ran for over a tank at a time, a tank and a half to be exact, and it started to run funny, sounding almost like bogging, this was at the track. Then a few hours later I got home and ran another tank and a half, and it started to happen again. I think it may be overheating or something. I'm new to nitro and not sure on everything. I have the engine tuned to where it occasionally can do a wheelie, but there's always some blue smoke coming from the exaust. What is happening?

theres not enough info for me to determine if its your tuning or not, but what i do is that i always run a tank, and then let it sit for a few minutes before i fire it back up. is it hot where you are? that could play a roll too, as i can run as many tanks consecutively during the winter as i want.

It's about 85 around here and the hsn is about 2 turns out is that. Not much tuning is needed to go fast with this engine. The lsn is only 1/4 turn in from stock which is one turn in from fluch with the housing.

Evem My HSN is 2 turns out from Close, just increase the Idle and check it, it should work then, i had some similar probs as well, and bring you LSN back the the original position, and just increase the idle,

whast with the blue smoke, the more smoke the better for your engine, dont even bother about the smoke just get it tuned rite,

good luck

Ok, I'm charging the glow ignitor, cleaned the car, and will wait a few mins inbetween tanks tomorrow and I will try to tune it good. I just bought a gallon of monster horsepower and badly need a rechargable reciever pack...went through 3 sets in 4 days.

ohhh and dont forget, when tuning never fill up the tank full, just put about 60ML of fuel and start to tune!!!!!!!, although first get it nice and hot with some fuel then start tuning with about 60ml of fuel

if you tune with a full tank the settings can differ,

in the stock TNX tank(or any fuel tank), when the tank is full, there is alot of pressure acting on the fuel because of the heigh of the fuel from below the tank therefore the engine runs richer, but as the tank empties the pressure on the fuel reduces and then there will be less fuel entering the engine,

because of this tune your engine with a little bit of fuel in it, so if you tune the engine for performance on a full tank then the engine can get extremely lean as the tank empties

good luck

check your glow plug. they tend to go bad during break-in due to the rich mixture you start with

i normally just tune it a little bit rich at half a tank. that way i know its warmed up from burning through half and i know that the mixture shouldnt change enough that it will ever be too rich or lean.

Your nitro motor will come from the factory running rich...I would lean it out a little and get a temp gauge. you will need to do this when the motor is at correct temp...One thing I found out about these motors is the glow plug that comes with them suck...I would buy a new one also....good luck you will need it!!!

Ha ha.

1) Of course I'm notr at the factory settings! I'm way past break in and have been tuning for 4 days now!
2) I changed the glow plug out to a #8, but I've been told an A3 is better for my conditions, so am getting one.

It is running extremely strong now, does a wheelie almost everytime I stop then floor it.

ohh das gud news, keep that thing rolin now, dont play around with the tuning and anything, u r gud to go, just remember i normally dont fill up the tank up fully, cos u know what happens rite, i normally fill it up to that line like thing on the tank, it works well there,

anyway just play and have fun!!, i would recommened some new shocks since the stock shocks suck pretty bad, they leak like hell, get some aluminiums or sumthing,

have gun

Uhh, this is tnx, not redcat.

For now the shocks will stay. I added 50wt and it's doing descent. Once I start racing, they will go. Today it's running even stronger. Even while rolling, if I hit the throttle it'll wheelie. I stalled once from a roll-over lean, and after that it wouldn't run as good. I'll get some new reciever batts and try it out soon.

Kuz you are the only two who keep ranting about it. I don't go in the other thread and say "[:@][:'(][:@]You shoulda never ordered the tower terror! Get the tnx!" I will get a tower terror dang it! I still need a big-block truck for some wheelies and stuff. But I'm glad the tnx was my first nitro mt, it's super reliable and runs like hell. 40mph easily. But still, once again, I want a big-block truck and need 2 trucks so my dad can run with me. But for now...I have the tnx and am happy.

P.S. This thread is really old, so noone else respond. I have everything sorted out.
