Just how important is the racing bit?? If you only mean messing around, then a Sav would be perfect for the jumping and bashing around part.. If you want to get more serious on the racing side, but still do the jumping, etc.., then get a Revo or LST2.. If you're on a budget and want a good all-rounder, get an MGT 4.6.
I'd also strongly recommend sticking with a 1/8 MT, as opposed to anything smaller.. With the bigger MT's you can drive in more kinds of places - most importantly on grass.. With an MT2 forget it.. Even if you say you don't explicitly intend to drive on grass, it's good to be able to.. Go look outside - what do you see most besides pavement?..

RE: Which one....
1/10 , $300 - CEN NX series. There are like 4 different one. Faster and more durable than HPI www.cenracing.com/rckits.html
$400-$500 - AEW MGT or Losi AfterShake
$500-$600 - CEN GST 7.7
Defintiely do not get a 2WD. you will end up doing nothing but donuts

Sounds like the MGT 4.6 would be right up your alley.. Keep an eye on them and what their prices do.. I don't really know how US pricing works, but here in Germany I've noticed the MTA4 S28(the Thunder Tiger version of the MGT 4.6 - same truck, different name..) has been going down in price.. Not sure, but it MAY have something to so with the fact that they're coming out with a new S50 - as in yes, a .50 size engine(8.33 cm I think..) Sav 25's are really going cheap here(cheap by German standards..)

RE: Which one....
Buggys are fast and cool but if you mainly plan to bash, you might want to go the MT route.. just my opinion though (never owned a buggy and don't really want one either)
