TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
To all TNX 5.2R owners:
I am getting mixed info on the top speed of this new truck. I was told the TNX 5.2R was radar tested and showing 57 mph. I was also told it held that for a few seconds. For comparison the same radar showed 43 mph for the previous generation TNX.
I was told this was done at Tamiya Canada when they initial received a shipment of the trucks.
Is this accurate? Does anyone else have a radar or GPS result?
All the magazine reviews I have read are posting 38 to 42 MPH range.
I'm confused as Tamiya initially boasted high top speeds but then seemed to retract the claim and now I am hearing otherwise!!!!
What is the TRUTH.
Very curious if magazines are boosting or curbing figures...
Thanks
Tom

Yeah, Tamiya America was originally saying 60+mph, but then retracted that and put 40+mph. The magazine articles I've seen showed 38-42 mph also. Granted this time of year isn't the best for getting the best speed out of a truck, but it is not even close to 60. With that .32 in it, it could probably be geared to get more top speed.

They got rid of the electric start and 4 of the 8 shocks, also slimmed the chassis down.

Wow, how'd they manage to do that? [sm=confused.gif]

They ditched the onboard electric start, used 4 shocks instead of 8, used the pivot ball suspension set up which is lighter than the orignal TNX arms and C hubs, and shaved the chassis plate in areas that weren't used.
EDIT: Looks like my reply got beat by 33 seconds.

oic.. I guess I shoulda' thought about it for a sec, I knew about some of that lol.... that's killer though, probably twice the power and even lighter, I bet it would make a great racer [sm=thumbup.gif] (with a .28)

Yeah, I've looked at the truck up close. The chassis plate is narrow and all motor! The arms are pivot ball. The electric on board motor is gone. Steel spur and drive shafts. The people I have talked with who drove the TNX say it is CRAZY ASS quick.
I'm keen on getting one...can any one shed some light on the performance?
Tom
I too got beat by the earlier reply!

I also forgot to mention the truck that went 57 was stock. The only variables used was adjusting the needles, 30 nitro and a medium range glow plug.
That is what I was told...not sure what to believe.
On paper it all makes sense I guess.

Going by the review in Xtreme RC the engine makes less HP and RPM than the Mach 427 hence the slower acceleration and top speed compared to the Muggy. You could really make that thing fly with a Mach427 or a LRP Spec III.

In Xtreme RC they say 3.78mph in 224ft but I think they mean 37.8mph. They also say a operating temp of 280 and got 9 minutes on a 150cc tank..................thats hella lean IMO.

RE: TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
This is in the truck, stock. I just feel for the people who buy it because of the engine. The first thing I would upgrade would be the engine and install a real pipe.
The TNX weight was 10lbs 1oz and in 60ft it took 3.78sec to accelerate to 27.1mph
The Muggy weight was 11lbs 7oz and in 60ft it took 2.1sec to accelerate to 32.1mpg
Over 1 second difference to cover the first 60ft.......... [X(][X(] Don't buy it because of the engine or pipe, it is really weak...

RE: TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
I'm sure this 32 motor isn't the most highly tuned motor. Looks like OFNA uses this motor...Force 32, can someone confirm this?
Having said that I'm sure the 32 has loads of torque and probably isn't a screamer revy motor.
The 427 is a nice power house especially with a aluminum pipe. I know the 427 likes revs.
The 5.2 TNX plastic pipe looks identical to the old TNX...so there prob be some gains to be had there.
But I was told the 5.2 was stock...57 at Tamiya Canada with a whole wack of hobby store owners watching. Is this some kind of down playing the performance or what...?
Come on... there has got to be someone in the warm parts of the US driving this truck.
It is like -13C here in Toronto and some nuts are still running!!!

In the magazine it was tested at 75F and it topped out at about 38mph which sounds about right. You stick a LRP Spec III in there with a proper tuned pipe and I bet you could hit 45 easy.

RE: TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
I noticed those performance numbers too. I know from all the charts I have seen in the past that usually a 2 second 0-30 mph time is fairly quick. The 3.78 second 0-27 seems awfully slow although there is a asterisk saying poor traction or wheel spin...

RE: TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
Correct me if I'm wrong but the LST2 tested 0-30 in 1.7 seconds, quicker than the muggy. I remember noticing that a couple months ago. I thought that was strange.
Could the extra weight help put the power down better?

I think these claims of 57-60 were probably kilometers per hour instead of miles per hour. That would equal right around 40 mph. I think the truck would be a handful trying to go 60 mph. Yeah, I can't see that .32 being and engine that would rev very high.

RE: TNX 5.2 TOP SPEED RUNS
I've tested a lot of cars and the only stock one RTR out of the box to this day and that was after a bunch of tweaking was by CEN and it was suppose to go 74.3 mph. But it just made it a little over 61 mph. That was when I used to trip on speed specs but along with those speeds comes repair. And lots of it not to mention if a body flexes wrong at 60+ mph the car goes air foil flying. Only thing that stays on the ground that small at those speeds don't have big flat plates for frames or have bodies on them shaped like a bag kite
