Default Differentials

Are differential problems common across the brands or are some quite solid? It seems like a lot of people have problems with them. Are there aftermarket or universal diffs or something stronger to use?

The MGT has a problem where the gears in the diff can strip cause the mesh is a little loose. They can be fixed with shims and a little dremeling. I have a Tamiya TB02R on road that also needs the diffs to be shimmed for the same reasons.
One popular upgrade is to add thicker fluid to a diff for a more locked effect.

LST2s are known for having very strong diffs
