Default dusty track conditions

Hello everyone' I would like to know how you deal with real dry dusty track conditions. Our local track has irragation issues and is really dry, every one that runs there is having problems with pistons and sleeves wearing out because of the dust finding some way to get into the engine. We do all the preventive things such as putting grease on the airfilter end caps ect...ect..ect. We are in the process of trying to get some clay to help hold the moisture better but what else can we do to to make are engines last longer in theese type of conditions...Thanks

The picture of are track was taken after some rain

The track a built is really dusty also. If you have a 2 stage filter, oil the inner foam and not the outer, dust won't stick as easy and most will just blow off. The inner filter being oiled is plenty of protection, just keep an eye on it to make sure dirt isn't getting through (my inner filter hardy ever gets overly dirty).... I also have 5 extra pre-oiled filters ready to go if/when the filter gets too dirty. If you're running where it's really dusty, you really should keep a few extra filters on hand no matter what..

i have used a coffee filter as a pre-filter. wrap it around your airfilter and fix it with a rubber band.

I use a Motor Saver now, but IMO the stock MGT filter was just fine. (maybe even a little better for dusty conditions, since the inner foam is completely concealed) I'm only using the Motor Saver because it came on a used MGT I bought..

I've always heard great things about Motorsaver filters.

They improve performance and have two filters. They also look sweet!

I just purchased a bag of power saver filters and the filters seem to be a lot more dense and thicker than all the previous filters I have had..we will see how theese work out.

There's also one you can buy (pre-filter, like the coffee filter idea).. I can't remember the name of the company though [:@] I think they primarily make stuff for dirt bikes.. maybe someone else here will know what I'm talking about.

Yeah Outerwears are very popular on Quads and Motocross bike. I have one on my Honda CRF50F, and it's very good.

Get outerwears or a really thick airfilter with a prefilter. Also you could try getting fuel filters. That might help keep the dust out too.

Next time before it rains sprinkle some calcium chloride on the dirt. It will help keep the dust down when it dries. But it makes the track hard so you will get blue grooves too. That wears out tires faster. I've heard soda syrup does the same thing.

Its the type of salt you use to melt ice. You can get large quantaties at places that cater to contractors. How much is a good guess. Maybe 1/2 to 1lb per foot? You might try calling BMX track etc. Many of those places use it.

recently i got this filter,, whcih is totally coverd,, they say its waterproof and sand prof etc..

when i mean water proof it doesent mean it can be sumerged in water,, its more like splash proof,, the filter is totally coverd with aplastic covering and there are a few openings at the top, it may hinder the performance but it filters well so i dont mind it!!!

I hear that the sodium chloride is bad for the aluminum on rc vehicles because it eats the aluminum

I don't see how - unless the salt is not fully dissolved into the ground AND you run the track wet. Motocross and BMX'ers would have the same problem as they have even more metal yet it is commonly used on their tracks to help keep the dust down.
