i got the new8.0 mgt and i was thinking of converting my old 4.6 to brushless as a new toy wondering if anyone has done it and if its worth the expense what type of motor speed control battery type gear ratio and any other issues that i may encounter any advice will be appreciated

Motor/ esc combo 200+
Lipo battery at least 5s 300+
lipo charger 150 +
other acessorys such as wire and deans 25 +
You can make some money buy selling the motor, pipe and gas tank.

You can run nimh but on a truck that size the only way your going to get a decent run time is some lipos and they have longer run times.

It depends on the mah of the battery and the size of the motor.

Motors are rated off of kv. The higher the kv, the less torque but more speed, the less kv, the more torque.

Exactly 45t and up motors and generally made for crawling.
the highest i think a brushless goes up to is 3t but not sure and thats pretty fast.

i guess i have some more research to do the cost on the batteries and charger kinda make the expense hard to justify doesnt it i watched the video links on you tube they look unreal fast with a ton of torque just thought it would be fun and a little less annoying to the neighbors

And snautrocket, you're talking about brushed motors, brushless can be compared to the turns of a brushed motor, but normally they're rated on their kv.

God...Thats insane.. I bet all that torque puts a lot of stress on the drive train. Thats just ridiculous that it can do a complete flip from a standing stop.

4s is plenty...8s is just overkill...sounds like he broke something at the end of the video..Apparently hes got a 44.4 v 12s setup as well... I can just see arts exploding under full throttle...

you can make the same power with either 4s or 8s. just going high voltage means you drawl less amps to make the same power. i've built two trucks that'll both flip from a stand still like the mgt on 4s does. its expensive to get everything you need, but worth it once its done. my first conversion to high powered brushless was an emaxx, and that was the worse truck to do it with. i sank so much money into it just to get it to hold up to the power. considering you already have an mgt, your cost won't be so much. if you want to know how to do it cheap, i have some solutions for you. it doesn't have to cost $700 to have something fast and reliable.

well, i would spend $700, but if you want lots of power and cheap look at this stuff.
its just an option, but gives you ideas.
motor is a kb45xl. they have a 6mm shaft. easily can be ground down to 5mm for readily availible pinions. =$55+shipping

esc has no breaks, but you already have mechanical breaks. works fine with pistal radios too. =$95.95+shipping +$6.95 for program card

you'll need a ubec to go with this. there are several at united hobbies for under $20

batteries you can use the wonderful a123's. pick up a dewalt dc9360 for $140 on ebay and that'll give you 10s1p which is 33v's and will spin that motor to 39krpm.
charger, there are several a123 chargers out there. it will be eaiser to configure your packs into 2 5s1p's and charge them that way.
here's one option, although there are better out there. =$69.95

now add custom motor mount, and a pinion for $30 and you're set.

i get $511.90 with what i listed here. you'll get way more power than nitro has ever given you, 10-15min run time, batteries that'll charge up in <15min with a better charger, and reliable running.
